[HAPPENING NOW] Work has begun at the Phola Sports Field near Hazyview in Mpumalanga to set up for Thursday’s memorial service for the late former Deputy President David Mabuza.

Three memorial services have been organized for Thursday, but the Phola one is expected to be huge as this is DD Mabuza’s home area.

[IN CASE YOU MISSED IT]

▪️President Cyril Ramaphosa declared that the former Deputy President DD Mabuza will be honoured with a State Funeral Category 2 on Saturday the 12th of July.

▪️This kind of a funeral is designated for deputy president, former deputy presidents and the acting president.

▪️As preparations for the funeral unfold, Days of National Mourning are observed from today (Monday) until the evening of Saturday, 12 July, as determined by the sitting president.

▪️During all this period, the National Flag is being flown at half mast at all flag stations around the country.

As promised two weeks ago, Mpumalanga Premier, Mr Mandla Ndlovu and Commmunity Safety, Security and Liaison MEC, Mr Jackie Macie, along with Acting Provincial Commissioner, Major General (Dr) Zeph Mkhwanazi led operations at illegal mining sites in Pilgrims Rest in the Thaba Chweu Local Municipality.

The tourist town saw a convergence of the South Africa Police Service (SAPS), South African National Defence Force (SANDF), Department of Home Affairs and other members of the Security Cluster raiding various sites around the town invaded by foreign nationals from countries such as Zimbabwe, Mozambique and Lesotho, who mine illegally.

So far, about 16 people have been arrested in connection with illegal mining activities. The team also confiscated equipment used in this clandestine activities.

Bushbuckridge man beat his 17 year old girlfriend to death.

A (25) year old man has been arrested after he accompanied his 17 year old girlfriend to the hospital for medical attention.

According to reports, Police received information about a badly assaulted victim that was brought to hospital by her family members, together with her boyfriend.

On arrival in hospital, members of the Police were led to a bed where a lifeless body of the teenage girl was laying motionless.

The victim sustained multiple injuries and Police made some investigation and learned that the boyfriend to the victim was somehow fingered.

It was during this time when they arrested the suspect who is expected to appear at the Bushbuckridge Magistrate's Court soon.

The motive behind the attack is unknown at this moment.
