BIKER ACCESSIBLE PLACES TO VISIT IN MPUMALANGA (Part 2 of 2)

A few months ago, Lowveld Ladies Bikers had visitors over (which happened to be Gabi's dad and his girlfriend, him being of German descent and her originally from Switzerland and extremely well travelled internationally) for a few days, and we decided to show them some of the splendor we have right here on our doorstep.

From our base in Whiteriver, we spent a day trip to the Kruger National Park, a day trip to the Sudwala Caves and the third day we took them to the Graskop Gorge Lift Co.

Each of the three evenings were spent eating out at Casterbridge Lifestyle Centre in Whiteriver at a few of our favourite restaurants namely GumTreez Pub & Grill, Avli Greek Grill and Magnolia Restaurant & Cocktail Lounge White River. Our visitors were suitably impressed by all three restaurants.

This post covers the Graskop Gorge Lift Co – FOREST WALK (LIFT & FOREST EXPERIENCE), which we last visited a few years ago. Situated right outside Graskop, this facility must be on your list to visit if you are in the area. There's also a Cliff Walk, the Big Swing and a Zipline which we'll attempt on another occasion as we were pushed for time on our visit.

The FOREST WALK is an unbelievable experience and you really feel at one with nature here. The route has changed quite considerably since our last visit, and will continue to evolve and remain ‘fresh’ with numerous new things in the pipeline.

A few months ago, Lowveld Ladies Bikers had visitors over (Gabi's dad and his girlfriend, him being of German descent and she is originally from Switzerland and extremely well traveled internationally) for a few days, and we decided to show them some of the splendor we have right here on our doorstep.

From our base in Whiteriver, we spent a day trip to the Kruger National Park, a day trip to the Sudwala Caves and the third day we took them to the Graskop Gorge Lift Co.

Each of the three evenings were spent eating out at Casterbridge Lifestyle Centre in Whiteriver at a few of our favourite restaurants namely GumTreez Pub & Grill, Avli Greek Grill and Magnolia Restaurant & Cocktail Lounge White River. Our visitors were suitably impressed by all three restaurants.

This post covers the Sudwala Caves, which I last visited many years ago. A mere 35 kms from Nelspruit (Mbombela) the caves must be on your list to visit if you are in the area. Current entry prices for the cave tour are R130 for adults, R110 for pensioners and R65 for kids. There's also a Dinosaur park and Zipline which we'll visit on another occasion as we were pushed for time on our visit.

The road up to the cave's entrance is quite steep with many tight turns, the key on a bike (especially for newer riders) is just to keep momentum up and stay in first or second gear.

The cave tour is absolutely amazing and the guides are extremely knowledgeable, friendly and efficient. We also had a bite to eat at the restaurant at the top by the cave's entrance, and the food was delicious.

The standard cave tour takes approximately 1 hour and if you are brave and adventurous, you can tackle the Crystal Chamber tour which involved a lot of crawling through mud and very tight spaces, but apparently well worth it at the end. Saturday 17 May 2025 saw the second running of the LOWVELD LADIES BIKERS RIDE DAY which was proudly organized by Lowveld Ladies Bikers in conjunction with 2 Wheels Only and BMW Motorrad Mbombela.

After completing the ride of around 190 km, which took the riders via the N4 past Sudwala and through to Sabie (where they all received a free drink at The Woodsman Pub & Restaurant) then through Graskop and Hazyview, everyone arrived safely at the end destination - GumTreez Pub & Grill at Casterbridge for lunch and prizegiving. Each Lady Biker received a R150 voucher towards their food and drinks from GumTreez Pub & Grill and courtesy of Amazing Life Centre each lady furthermore received a voucher for a free 30 minute back, neck and shoulder massage worth R150!

Prizegiving prizes (there were tons of goodies) were generously donated by:

- BMW Motorrad Mbombela
- Pitlane Motorcycle Accessories
- Dream Machines Bike & Car
- UB Leisure Nelspruit

PART 1 (OF 2) "THE RIDE" (Part 2 - Prizegiving - to follow)

Saturday 17 May 2025 saw the second running of the LOWVELD LADIES BIKERS RIDE DAY which was proudly organized by Lowveld Ladies Bikers in conjunction with 2 Wheels Only and BMW Motorrad Mbombela.

A beautiful sunny autumn morning greeted the Ladies Bikers (and a number of gents in attendance) arriving at BMW Motorrad Mbombela. Here they had time to grab a beverage and a delicious cupcake with pink frosting - pink being the theme and colour for the day, before setting off on a scenic route of 190km. Lowveld Motorcycle Safety Initiative kindly supplied marshals to ensure a smooth ride for the day.

The route took the riders via the N4 past Sudwala and through to Sabie, where they all received a free drink at The Woodsman Pub & Restaurant at the halfway stop. From here on the ride went through Graskop and Hazyview before arriving at the end destination - GumTreez Pub & Grill at Casterbridge - for lunch and prizegiving.
