DIGGING UP CONTROVERSY: Police Probe Suspected Illegal Mining Operation in KaMhlushwa
KaMhlushwa, Mpumalanga – Police are currently investigating an alleged illegal mining site in KaMhlushwa, near the local stadium, following reports that individuals were excavating a residential property in search of gold.
Law enforcement officers were dispatched to the scene after concerns were raised by community members who suspected that illegal mining activities were taking place in the area. The excavation site, located within a household yard, has attracted attention amid claims that those involved believed there could be gold deposits beneath the property.
However, a member of the family residing at the property has strongly denied the allegations.
According to the family representative, the digging was not related to mining activities but was part of a domestic project aimed at sourcing soil to level the yard. He further explained that the excavation would also serve as a pit for disposing of household rubbish.
Police remain on the scene gathering information and assessing the circumstances surrounding the excavation. It is not yet clear whether any criminal charges will be pursued, pending the outcome of the investigation.
The incident has sparked curiosity among local residents, with many gathering near the site to witness the developments as authorities continue their work.
