Muzi Mthombothi from Mdlankomo near Malekutu says the lion was targeting his cattle when the terrifying ordeal unfolded. The area is situated close to the Kruger National Park, where communities occasionally experience dangerous wildlife entering villages.

Mthombothi says he tried to protect his cows before the lion attacked him, leaving him injured and traumatised. Despite the horrifying encounter, he managed to survive what many are calling a miracle escape.

Speaking after the incident, Mthombothi said he truly believed he was going to die during the attack.
The incident has sparked fresh concerns among residents living near wildlife areas, with community members calling for improved safety measures to prevent animals from roaming into villages.

NPA Appeals Contempt Ruling and Arrest Warrant Against Prosecutor in Kwaggafontein Case
The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has officially filed an application for leave to appeal the contempt of court ruling and authorisation of a warrant of arrest issued against prosecutor Mkhuseli Ntaba in the controversial Kwaggafontein case.

The matter relates to the high-profile case involving taxi boss Joe “Ferrari” Sibanyoni and his co-accused. The controversy erupted after Ntaba failed to appear in court during bail proceedings, prompting Chief Magistrate Tuletu Tonjeni to strike the matter off the court roll and find the prosecutor in contempt of court.

The magistrate further authorised a warrant for Ntaba’s arrest — a rare and dramatic development involving a state prosecutor.
In response, the NPA says it believes the ruling was incorrect and has now moved to challenge both the contempt conviction and the arrest warrant through the appeal process.
According to the prosecuting authority, the filing of the application for leave to appeal automatically suspends both the contempt order and the warrant of arrest pending the outcome of the appeal proceedings.

The NPA has also requested the magistrate’s written reasons for the ruling to strengthen its appeal application if necessary.
The case has drawn significant public attention and raises serious questions about accountability, court authority, and tensions within South Africa’s justice system.
