NEWS 🗞️ | GRADE 10 LEARNER BRUTALLY KILLED BY UNIVERSITY STUDENTS
8 May 2025, 14:17 PM | Bushbuckridge Guardian | Follow on Twitter/X

𝐒𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐭𝐨, South Africa — A fatal altercation involving high school learners and university students resulted in the death of an 18-year-old learner from Musi High School in Pimville, Soweto.

Cebo Biyela, a Grade 10 learner, was brutally killed in a violent standoff between his schoolmates and five University of Johannesburg’s students.

Biyela’s death was the result of a vicious assault with a baseball bat, beer bottles, and fatal stab wounds, including a slit throat.

The incident reportedly began when five university students, allegedly intoxicated, harassed the learners on a school bus and took their beanies while demanding a lift to a nearby tavern.

The bus driver removed the students and drove off. However, some learners later returned to confront them near Makentshe student accommodation in Power Park, where Biyela was killed.

One suspect was apprehended by the residence caretaker and handed over to law enforcement authorities.

Two suspects, aged 19 and 24, are expected to appear in the Lenasia Magistrate’s Court on murder charges. The Police continue with their investigation. For regular update click: https://x.com/BbrGuardianZA | Follow Tshwane Post for the latest news. |

NEWS 🗞️ | RESIDENTS IN EMALAHLENI PROTEST OVER PERSISTENT UNEMPLOYMENT
8 May 2025, 09:02 AM | Bushbuckridge Guardian | Follow on Twitter/X

𝐞𝐌𝐚𝐥𝐚𝐡𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐢, South Africa — The residents of Ganala, including Kriel, Thubelihle, and Rietspruit near Witbank, participated in a protest against persistent unemployment, despite being surrounded by mines and power stations.

They burned tyres and barricaded several streets leading into the area’s settlements.

Residents expressed dissatisfaction with the scarcity of job opportunities provided by local industries.

They emphasized that industries, including Eskom and nearby mining companies, were treating local residents unfairly.

According to the residents, local industries should prioritize hiring locals, given their proximity to the community.

Protesters claimed to have repeatedly engaged with these companies, but their efforts have yielded no meaningful response.

They argued that the lack of job opportunities has resulted in significant economic hardship, exacerbating poverty and inequality in the area.

The protest underscores the growing tension between the community and the Emalahleni Local Municipality.

The municipality’s recent announcement regarding plans to disconnect services for non-paying residents has further exacerbated the situation.

Residents argued that unemployment was the primary cause of non-payment, and the municipality’s threat would only serve to exacerbate the problem.

They maintained that the municipality should focus on creating jobs and stimulating economic growth rather than cutting off essential services. For regular update click: https://x.com/BbrGuardianZA | Follow Tshwane Post for the latest news. |

𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐚, South Africa — Police confirmed that the vehicle pulled from Hennops River in Centurion near Pretoria is that of three constables whose bodies were found this week.

The search team retrieved the white VW Polo that the three police officers were traveling in from the river bed on Thursday afternoon.

Items found inside the vehicle included a handbag and service book. The white handbag carried personal belongings like chargers and earphones, etc.

This bag belonged to one of the police officers. Earlier in the week, five bodies and car parts were also recovered along the river since Sunday as police investigate what may have happened to the deceased.

Last Wednesday, constables Linda Cebekhulu, Keamogetswe Buys, and Boipelo Senoge went missing after traveling from Bloemfontein in the Free State to Polokwane in Limpopo for their area of deployment.

The three officers vanished while traveling from Bloemfontein in the Free State to Polokwane in Limpopo last week.

At this moment, the authorities are yet to ascertain the cause of death and the events that led their vehicle to end up in the river.

𝐌𝐛𝐨𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐥𝐚, South Africa — Lucy Moyane, the head of Mpumalanga’s education department, has taken a month-long leave of absence as pressure escalates over the R2-million laptop procurement saga impacting the province.

This development came shortly after Premier Mandla Ndlovu, during a media briefing at the G20 Education Indaba on Thursday, 24 April 2025, vowed to make public the findings of an ongoing investigation.

The province’s handling of the matter has sparked growing pressure and public concern, highlighting the need for accountability and transparency.

Ndlovu tasked the integrity management unit in his office with leading the investigation into the purchase of 22 laptops at an astonishing R91,482.50 each.

Several South Africans have been demanding accountability amid increasing scrutiny from ANC leadership, including President Cyril Ramaphosa and Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula.

The scandal broke after Education MEC Landulile Cathy Dlamini revealed the procurement details during a recent provincial legislature session, prompting widespread public outrage and allegations of wasteful spending and corruption.

The Premier has pledged to ensure full transparency, stating that the investigation is nearing completion, with findings expected to be released soon.

Although officials claim that Moyane’s leave, described as pre-approved annual leave, is unrelated to the scandal, the timing has fueled public skepticism.

Moyane, a veteran educator and administrator, has previously faced scrutiny, including over a contentious R2-million guardhouse refurbishment project in 2024. For regular update click: https://x.com/BbrGuardianZA | Follow Tshwane Post for the latest news. |

𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐚, South Africa — DJ Mujava’s recent sighting on the streets of Pretoria, where he was asking for donations, has sparked concerns about his well-being.

The renowned South African DJ and record producer, whose real name is Elvis Maswanganyi, was recently seen in the streets of Atteridgeville in the western areas of Pretoria asking for donations from passersby.

Mujava had undergone rehabilitation in 2024, courtesy of popular amapiano artist and philanthropist Karabo Mokgara, famously known as Dj Karri, and was released in February 2025.

However, his recent sighting in the streets asking for donations from motorists and passersby suggests that he has relapsed.

DJ Mujava, a pioneering artist behind the iconic Bacardi music genre, is known for his hit songs, such as Mogwanthi Wa Pitori/Sgwejegweje and Township Funk.

The condition of the 40-year-old former household musician has raised concerns about his well-being and safety, prompting several fans and well-wishers to request support and assistance.

As the music community rallies around DJ Mujava, it emphasizes the importance of ongoing mental health support and rehabilitation.

This incident highlights the need for sustained assistance and care for individuals struggling with personal demons. For regular update click: https://x.com/BbrGuardianZA | Follow Tshwane Post for the latest news. |

𝐊𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐚𝐫𝐞, South Africa — A search is underway for four lions on the loose at Bushbuckridge in Mpumalanga.

The lions were reported to have escaped from Kruger National Park on Saturday evening. They were first sighted in Huntington Village, and were reported to have killed some cows.

A team has been dispatched by the Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency (MTPA) to capture lions that are on the loose.

This follows a complaint from residents of Malamule Section of Kildare and Somerset Villages about lions roaming their areas.

According to Simphiwe Shungube, MTPA’s spokesperson, one lion has been captured. “Our latest development is the capture of one lion, which is being kept in our facilities for observation.”

“We will then decide where to translocate it. The community claims to have seen four lions, but our tracking indicates only two sets of tracks.

Our search continues using drones and a Kruger National Park helicopter.” For regular update click: https://x.com/BbrGuardianZA | Follow Tshwane Post for the latest news. |
