The South African Police Service (SAPS) in Kaapmuiden undertook a routine patrol along the N4 Road, during which they uncovered a brown Toyota Hilux laden with dagga. The vehicle, displaying Mpumalanga registration number plates, carried 41 bags containing approximately 502.6 kilograms of dagga with an estimated value exceeding R3 million. A 37-year-old suspect was apprehended at the scene for dagga dealing and is scheduled to appear at the Barberton Magistrate’s Court. The Acting Provincial Commissioner, Major General (Dr) Zeph Mkhwanazi, lauded the officers for their commitment to combating drug-related crimes.

Traffic law enforcement officer Sifiso Andries Lubisi, 39, died in a road crash on Friday, May 15, around 07:00, at the N4 toll road intersection with R570 Jeppes Reef Road near Malelane. The vehicle in which Lubisi and two colleagues were travelling collided side-swipe with an Audi SUV and lost control, subsequently colliding with a truck on the same road. Unfortunately, Lubisi, a passenger in the vehicle, died at the scene, and his two colleagues were seriously injured.

PAPA PENNY RESIGNS FROM MK

Gezane Eric Kobane, popularly known as Papa Penny, has announced his resignation from the MK Party and Parliament, effective immediately. In a letter to Jacob Zuma, the MK Party President, Kobane cited unbearable internal attacks and vilification by the party's Limpopo leadership as the reason for his departure. The Shangaan Disco King expressed his disappointment, stating that the struggle for the emancipation of the people should not come at the cost of internal betrayals. Kobane emphasized that the attacks on his dignity and reputation had become insupportable. After serving in the National Assembly, Kobane thanked Zuma for the opportunity but felt compelled to prioritize his integrity. Kobane's resignation marks the departure of a colourful figure from the MK benches, having joined the party in May 2024 after defecting from the ANC.
