On Thursday, 20 November 2025, a collaborative operation between the Department of Correctional Service and the South African Police Service (SAPS) in Mangaung Metro resulted in a significant breakthrough in the fight against the smuggling of contraband goods into the G4S Correctional Facility. Following the receipt of intelligence, a random search was conducted, and the locker of a 36-year-old Direct Supervision Officer was searched. A meticulous search of the suspect's lunch box, employing the use of a fork, revealed 149 Mandrax tablets sealed with masking tape and compressed dagga concealed within a transparent plastic container. The suspect was promptly arrested by G4S Correctional Centre management and members of the Bloemspruit Visible Policing Unit. A case docket for Possession of Drugs was subsequently opened at the Bloemspruit Police Station, and the suspect is expected to appear in the Bloemfontein Magistrate Court soon.
