Wits Actuarial Graduate Who Earned R24 Million More Than His Boss
Discovery Bank CEO Hylton Kallner’s remuneration totalled R61 million for the 2025 financial year — nearly R24 million more than Discovery co-founder and Group CEO Adrian Gore’s R37 million. This almost mirrors what transpired in the previous financial year when Kallner earned almost double Gore’s R32 million.
The bank CEO’s remuneration comprised an R8.68 million base salary, R434,119 in retirement fund contributions, other benefits amounting to R464,141, a R25.75 million performance-related cash bonus, and a further R25.75 million in long-term incentives.
Discovery’s remuneration committee chair, Faith Khanyile, explained that the group believes in rewarding innovative, resilient, and purpose-driven individuals as the key to sustaining performance, deepening engagement, and securing the talent needed to deliver the organisation’s purpose.
Kallner was appointed Discovery Bank CEO in 2021 after serving 25 years within the group.
He joined Discovery in 1996 after graduating with a Bachelor of Economic Science in Actuarial Science and Econometrics from the University of the Witwatersrand.
In 2006, Kallner became Discovery’s Chief Marketing Officer — a position he held for nine years. He was then appointed Discovery Life CEO in 2016 and Discovery South Africa CEO in 2020.
He is a Fellow of the Actuarial Society of South Africa (FASSA) and a Fellow of the Faculty of Actuaries (FFA). ゚viralシfypシ゚viralシalシ
