Yesterday I had the pleasure of meeting one of my brothers, Martin Mkhabela, who runs guided tours in Kruger. Martin has been a great supporter of the Xipandza Travel app, helping us log sightings and contribute valuable information for fellow visitors. It was fantastic to finally catch up in person and share our passion for the bush.

I’m also excited to share that, very soon, you’ll be able to book Martin’s guided drives directly through the Xipandza Travel app, making it even easier to experience Kruger with an experienced guide.

Road owner on the H7.

A few days ago, this lioness casually strolled down the road after spending time mating with a male nearby. Moments like these remind you who’s really in charge out here.

Last night around 6pm in the Skukuza camping area, the porcupines made an appearance. It’s always amazing how much wildlife can be found inside camp once the day’s visitors settle down.

Many people rush out for sightings, but sometimes the best encounters happen right where you’re staying.

Have you ever had an unexpected wildlife visitor in camp? What was it?

Camp Raid at Skukuza! 😳

Friday night at Skukuza Rest Camp turned into something I’ll never forget. This fearless honey badger decided our neighbour’s camping fridge looked like an all-you-can-eat buffet and went straight in for a raid!

When I got up to close the fridge, he wasn’t too impressed. He came charging back, hissed at me, and got so close he nearly touched my shoes. For a moment, it was just me and one of Africa’s toughest little creatures face to face.

People often say honey badgers have no fear… after this encounter, I believe it! What an exhilarating experience to be that close to such an iconic animal.

Many of you who support us on YouTube have been asking for this, and we listened.

Yesterday, I left Crocodile Bridge Rest Camp and headed to Skukuza for a two-night stay with my brother, Karabo from Northern Bushman. Along the way, we found two honey badgers before Gezantombi, missed the mother cheetah with cubs on the S137, but still enjoyed an incredible day with a leopard sighting.

Today delivered even more action with wild dogs and their puppies on the H1-2, mating lions at Matlumuvi, and another leopard sighting.

Tomorrow, I head to Satara for three nights, followed by five nights at Lower Sabie. You can now follow my journey live on the Xipandza Travel app as I log all my sightings along the way.

Who knows what the next few days in Kruger have in store?

Day 1 of 10 started on a high note at Crocodile Bridge Rest Camp. It was great catching up with Kevin and Donna from The Buffalo Overlander once again. As my 10-day Kruger adventure was just beginning, theirs was sadly coming to an end after another incredible journey through the park. I also had the pleasure of meeting Diana, Safari Wildlife Woman. What a wonderful way to start a trip!

Today, I’m making my way to Skukuza, where I’ll be spending the next two nights. I’ll share more about my stay at Skukuza later, but for now, it’s time to hit the road and see what surprises the bush has in store.

The Lilac-breasted Roller is the most beautiful bird in Kruger!

If not, which bird takes the top spot for you?

Many of us have heard this sound before, whether deep in the bush or right in our own gardens in the city.

The Crested Barbet’s call is one of those sounds that instantly takes you somewhere special. For some, it’s the sound of Kruger mornings. For others, it’s a reminder of home, childhood memories, or the colourful little visitor that arrives at the bird feeder every day.

Love it or find it a little loud 😅, one thing is certain — it’s a sound that’s impossible to forget.

Turn the volume up and enjoy a minute with one of South Africa’s most loved birds. ❤️
