Dear mothers who are in abusive relationships or marriages, it’s okay to leave. Do not stay because of material things or the comfortable lifestyle a man brings to the table. Ladies, let’s learn to work and empower ourselves so that we are not taken advantage of by these scumbags.
Please, my sister, pack your bags and go back home. Leave. The only end result of these types of marriages is death. He will give you STIs, kill you, or drive you to destroy yourself with the hurtful words he says. People always say, "Mahure anonetsa" (Prostitutes are problematic); don't listen to this! Keep your head held high and leave.
To our mothers back home and our aunts: you are our elders, so please stop telling young mothers that he will change. "Ndozvinoita dzimba" (That’s just how marriage is) is wrong—an abuser will never change. Encourage us to come back home the moment he lays a hand on us. It is high time Zimbabwean women are empowered to stand against abusive men
Church leaders are also to blame because people are encouraged to endure abuse—"kuchina chaiko, people are encouraged to shingirira ndozvinoita imba". This narrative needs to stop
Leave, dear sister, leave and start your life afresh. It is doable; I am a living testimony. Please follow and share this story. I will be posting advice and ideas to empower mothers in abusive relationships.
My main advice is to LEAVE! Do not try to be the "bigger person" to mend something that is already broken. If a partner beats you up, a line has been crossed that can never be uncrossed. No amount of apologies will change a monster. Let him work on himself and go to therapy on his own, but as for you, dear mother being abused: LEAVE
