🌍🐝 It’s World Bee Day! And today, we’re celebrating the unsung heroes of the pollinator world — South Africa’s solitary bees! Learn more about their “super powers” and what sets them apart from the social bees.

🌸 1. The solitary oil-collecting bees have extra-long forelegs that help to collect oils from deep flowers. 💧

🐦 2. The neon cuckoo bee
lays eggs in other bees’ nests, and its larvae thrive on stolen food. 👀

🏜️ 3. The sandy-banded digger bee
digs nests in loose sand without needing special leg adaptations. 🏖️

🪚4. The banded large carpenter bee
has powerful jaws to help it turn dead branches into nurseries. 🌿

🍃 5. The big-toothed dauber bee’s
sharp mandibles cut leaves, creating precise, leaf nest cells. ✂️

Even the smallest superheroes can change the world. 🌍💚🦸

The most horrific poisoning of vultures in Kruger National Park

BREAKING NEWS: 84 Vultures Rescued in Kruger Poisoning Incident

On 6 May 2025, a mass poisoning event unfolded in Kruger National Park, where poachers used toxic chemicals to target vultures for the illegal wildlife trade. The toll: 123 vultures dead.

But in the face of devastation, 84 vultures were rescued alive, thanks to a swift, coordinated response led by:

South African National Parks, Moholoholo Wildlife and Rehabilitation Center NPC , Briner Veterinary Services , Hope for Wildlife Helicopter Services Wildscapes Veterinary Services and the Endangered Wildlife Trust.

This was one of the largest vulture poisoning responses in Southern Africa, and one of the most successful vulture rescues ever recorded.

Plastic pollution is choking us. How did we survive before water was consumed out of billions of tiny plastic bottles? How did previous generations buy goods not wrapped in plastic? Is it manufacturer greed that prevents solutions? Plastic is usually cheaper and easier to package goods in and lighter to transport, and consumers demand convenience. We are all to blame.

Ignorance fed by false belief breeds cruelty. Owls can can eat many rats each night providing natural pest control yet they are demonised. The government and conservationists need to implement widespread education in communities about the value of owls and dispel the myths.
