Through a 2-weeks Training Programme, funded by BankSETA, Proteus Technical High School Learners in Cape Town were equipped with Critical Digital Literacy Skills that are aligned with the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR). 🌐🤖

They gained hands-on experience in:
✅ Coding
✅ Mobile Robotics
✅ Internet of Things (IoT)
✅ Data Science
✅ 3D-Printing Technology
✅ Python Programming

These initiatives by West Coast TVET College, DHET and BankSETA were aimed at enhancing Coding & Robotics Competencies and Work readiness, preparing Learners to navigate the demands of a rapidly evolving Digital Economy 💻🚀.

As we wrap-up the 2 Weeks 4IR Digital Skills Literacy Programme with Proteus Technical High School in Atlantis, Cape Town.

This Project, initiated by West Coast TVET College, DHET in collaboration with BankSETA was aimed to equip Learrners from surrounding Communities with Critical Digital Competencies in the 4th Industrial Revolution hands-on Trainings such as Coding, Mobile Robotics, 3D-Printing, AI, IoT, Data Science and Software Programming.

This initiative was more than just a Skills Training, it was an investment in future-ready Youth, preparing them for future studies and success in the Digital Economy. By boosting ICT Competencies, the Project was initiated to help shape a generation that is ready to thrive in the 4IR-driven World.

What is Machine Learning…

Machine learning is a subset of artificial intelligence based on the concept that a system can learn from data, identify patterns, and make decisions with little or no human intervention. Machine learning is comprised of both classifiers and algorithms. Classifiers categorize operations, while algorithms are the techniques that organize and orient classifiers.

Machine learning is divided into three primary learning model approaches: Supervised, unsupervised, and reinforced.

What is Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning...

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is the intelligence demonstrated by machines. This is in contrast to natural intelligence which is the intelligence displayed by living organisms. AI uses intelligent agents that can perceive their environment and make decisions that maximize the probability of obtaining a specific goal or objective. AI refers to systems that mimic cognitive functions normally associated with human minds such as learning and problem solving.

Some of the tasks that currently are deemed to require a degree of AI are autonomous cars, intelligent routing in content delivery networks, strategic game playing, and military simulations.

As technology develops, many of the tasks that at one time required AI have become routine. Many of these tasks have migrated from AI to Machine Learning (ML).

ML is a subset of AI that uses statistical techniques to give computers the ability to “learn” from their environment. This enables computers to improve on a particular task without being specifically programmed for that task.

What is Cloud Computing...

Cloud computing is a collection of data centers or groups of connected servers. Access to software, storage, and services available on the servers is obtained through the internet via a browser interface. Cloud services are provided by many large companies such as Google, Microsoft, and Apple.

Cloud storage services are provided by different vendors such as: Google Drive, Apple iCloud, Microsoft OneDrive, and Dropbox.

From an individual’s perspective, using the cloud services allows you:

- To store all of your data, such as pictures, music, movies, and emails, freeing up local hard drive space
- To access many applications instead of downloading them onto your local device
- To access your data and applications anywhere, anytime, and on any device.
