My name is Lwandile Tooring, commonly known as DJ Warra. Those who know me see me as a pillar of the community who has dedicated his life to making music. I am known as a kind neighbour who does everything in my power to uplift those around me, especially the youth. I started a music initiative in 2014 called Next Level Music, where with the help of dear friends I have built a recognised name in the music industry of Kariega.
Throughout this 11 year journey I have built a respected brand with Next Level Music where we have hosted a variety of events. We have held music shows in high schools and community halls, we have inspired the youth to participate in their traditional festivities with our many Heritage Day events and we have even branched out to our community in other ways via our annual Chicken Braai where we contribute to communal unity. My efforts have earned me a lot of admiration and I am seen as a role model to many people both younger and older than myself.
In 2022 I was fortunate enough to be interviewed by Bay TV, proving that I was capable of doing bigger things. In the process of hosting these events which have strengthened our community’s support, we have also made a lot of music and have given many music loving members of the youth a chance to exercise their dreams. We have taught and trained many aspiring musicians skills like writing, recording, mixing, mastering, graphic design, video editing and beatmaking. I do all of this because I care and want to help others in any way I can.
I hope that those of you reading this can appreciate my wanting to help and can hopefully help me in my time of need. I have achieved a lot despite many obstacles that I have faced. For those don’t know I lost an arm through a tragic accident when I was 9 years old. This had a devasting impact on me as a young person and there were many times when I did not think I could get anywhere in life. Through my own strength and the support of many people, I have not allowed my disability to limit my possibilities.
I am a DJ and I have managed to be a great one despite having only one arm. My music journey has not always been successful, and I have gone through times where my equipment has been damaged, where shows that I was booked for got cancelled last minute, where event organisers paid me half of the money I was promised, where jealousy has cost me opportunities and people had no faith in me. Getting to where I am has not been easy.
My biggest problem however is my poor eyesight. This has been a big problem for me since I was a child, and it limited how well I could do at school. Unfortunately both of my parents have sadly passed away and they tried their best to get me help with my vision. I was brought to expensive doctors and many medical institutions, and they were unable to help me see better. Living without parents, while also having a physical and visual impairment has made life very difficult. I have had to motivate myself and not lose faith even when times were hard. I can only do so much however, and I ask upon all of you for help now.
My eyesight is a big disadvantage for me as a DJ. I feel that in order for me to take my skills to a higher standard, I need to buy a Pioneer CDJ. This would elevate my craft to another level. The biggest reason I want this Pioneer CDJ is because having it would allow me to travel to gigs, where I could bring it along with me. The problem I face with my vision makes it nearly impossible to use equipment from event venues, because I cannot see the controls properly. Having my own CDJ would enable me to practice my sets at home and I could deliver the same quality of DJing no matter where I perform.
These Pioneer CDJs cost around R60 000. I will not give up in trying to get them and I would really appreciate if you all could help me by donating any amount of money you can afford, so that I can make my dream a reality. It seems like a difficult target to reach but I believe that with the kindness of you all reading and with the Grace of God, I can achieve it.
I am not doing this just for myself, everything I do is done with the community in mind. Getting this CDJ would allow me to train other upcoming DJs so that I can help the skills development in Kariega. I know that there is a young child out there who dreams of becoming a DJ and me getting this CDJ would allow me to help that young child reach their full potential. Thank you for those who took their time read this and I hope that I find people who believe in my vision and are gracious enough to support me in trying to accomplish it.
Below are my contact details for anyone who wants to reach out to me or offer me words of strength. I also left my banking details for anyone who is willing to donate.
