ELECTRICITY MINISTER SCRAPS LOAD REDUCTION, IMMEDIATELY

Electricity and Energy Minister, Kgosientsho Ramokgopa, has announced that load reduction is coming to an end, effective today, September 25 in Pretoria.

Load reduction, which intentionally cuts off electricity in specific areas to prevent network overloads, especially during peak hours, will no longer be implemented.

According to Ramakgopa, this decision marks is a step towards stabilising the country's electricity supply, following progress in addressing load shedding, a nationally coordinated power interruption to protect the grid.

Ramakgopa said they had been working on interventions to tackle load reduction, which often affects areas with high energy losses or illegal connections.

"This move prioritizes safeguarding critical infrastructure and ensuring reliable electricity supply nationwide," he said.
