Thinking of hiring a Social Media Marketer? Read this first.
Everyone is a "Social Media Marketing Specialist" until they are not.
Before you hire someone to manage your brand online, get to know them first— not just their portfolio, but their approach, ethics, and understanding of what social media really means for your business.
Here’s the truth:
A Social Media Marketer is not just a Graphic Designer.
Yes, design is a part of the job — but it’s not the whole picture. A true SMM handles strategy, content planning, community engagement, trend awareness, analytics, and more.
Tools like Canva are great (I use them too for inspiration on non-inspirational days), but using templates alone doesn’t make someone a graphic designer — especially if they're charging top rates for work anyone can recreate. Design is about originality, not dragging and dropping.
Also… I'm not formally qualified — and I’m proud of that. Everything I know, I’ve learned through experience, self-teaching, trial and error, and real results. Qualifications mean very little if you don't know how to apply them in the real world — this I have been seeing alot lately.
