MODIMOLLE REGIONAL COURT SENTENCES ACCUSED MARKUS NDLOVU (34) TO 20 YEARS IMPRISONMENT*
*POLOKWANE* : The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, has welcomed the conviction and sentencing of Markus Ndlovu (34), who was found guilty of r**e and murder.
The court heard that on Sunday, 28 August 2016, the victim was with her friend at a local tavern. The victim, a 23-year-old, was approached by the suspect Markus Ndlovu, who dragged her to an abandoned house where he threatened her with a knife and r**ed her. The friend later on arrived at the abandoned house and helped the victim, and the suspect ran away.
The accused was traced and arrested in April 2023 for a r**e case.
The second incident was on Friday, 21 May 2021.
The accused informed his mother through his cell phone that he had killed his wife, aged 35, and he left her at home. The mother of the accused went to their home, forced open the door, and discovered the wife in a pool of blood with multiple stab wounds lying on the bed.
She called the police, and a murder case was opened.
The suspect ran away from Modimolle and was traced and arrested in April 2023.
The bail was successfully opposed, and he remained in custody until he was found guilty by the Modimolle Regional Court on Thursday, 27 March 2025.
In 2024, he traced the victim, 23 years old. The case was previously withdrawn because the victim could not be traced.
The case was reinstated, and both dockets, Murder and R**e, were further investigated by Modimolle Family Violence Child Protection and Sexual Offenses Unit, and Warrant Officer Cicka Kruger was tasked to investigate the case.
Through her meticulous investigation skills, she managed to oppose the bail, and after a lengthy trial, the accused was found guilty and sentenced as follows: (Count 1) Murder 15 Years imprisonment (Count 2) R**e 10 years imprisonment GBV (Criminal Procedure Amendment Act 51(2) : 5 years imprisonment.
