Dashed into Garden Walk Mall and this stopped me in my tracks.

A whole mural. Proteas, fynbos, bird of paradise... and right in the middle, a folk saying that feels like a warm hand on your shoulder.

I’ve been thinking about this whole idea of going somewhere.

We’ve somehow decided that an adventure has to involve a booking confirmation, a suitcase and preferably a credit card that we don’t want to look at afterwards.

Meanwhile, there are interesting little places everywhere.

That old building you’ve driven past for years.

The tiny coffee shop you’ve never walked into.

A road you’ve never taken.

A monument you’ve never stopped to read.

A cemetery with names that make you wonder who these people were.

A town 80km away that you’ve somehow never actually visited.

That’s really what Dash & Discover is about.

DASH: Once every two weeks, we try to go somewhere. Properly go somewhere. 🚗

DISCOVER: Every day, we find one little thing we didn't know was there. 🔎

And we’re doing it without pretending that you need a fortune to enjoy your own country.

Sometimes we take padkos.

Sometimes we spend R30 on coffee.

Sometimes we find something completely free.

And occasionally, because life is short, there will be cheesecake. Obviously.

The point isn't to tick places off a list.

It’s to notice things.

So that's the plan for this week:

Go somewhere you haven't been.

Take the road you normally don't.

Stop for the thing you've always wondered about.

Ask a local what the story is.

Look up.

Look around.

Be curious.

You might be surprised how much adventure is sitting right under your nose.
