• DA ondersteun die oproep vir leefstyloudits op senior polisiebeamptes

Dit volg op die plofbare bewerings van korrupsie en politieke inmenging binne die Suid-Afrikaanse Polisiediens. Die voorsitter van die Portefeuljekomitee oor Polisie het in reaksie op die bewerings ‘n onafhanklike kommissie van ondersoek en leefstyloudits vir senior polisiebeamptes versoek. Die DA versoek president Cyril Ramaphosa om die bewerings teen die polisiemag te ondersoek. Die party se Lisa Schickerling sê verantwoordbaarheid moet verpligtend wees vir almal.

• Ramaphosa het die Verenigde State se 30 persent-handelstarief wat teen Suid-Afrika ingestel is erken.

Die president sê onderhandelingspanne van Suid-Afrika en die VSA sal die saak bespreek en werk aan die hersiening van die tarief. Die regering glo dat ‘n wederkerige tarief van 30 persent nie ‘n akkurate voorstelling van handelsdata is nie. Volgens Ramaphosa is die gemiddelde tarief vir ingevoerde goedere wat die land binnekom sewe-komma-ses persent en die meeste goedere kom teen nul persent in. Die president se woordvoerder, Vincent Magwenya, sê dat die onderhandelingspanne en Suid-Afrikaanse maatskappye intussen hul handelsopsies diversifiseer.

• Ramaphosa responds to Trump’s tweets about Brics countries

Trump threatens to charge Brics countries an additional 10-percent trade tariff for their anti-American policies. Ramaphosa says there should be an appreciation of various centres of power in the world. Ramaphosa says Brics does not seek to compete with other power structures or countries. He further says Brics subjects itself to other power structures such as the UN and shouldn’t be seen as a threat but as an initiative aimed at enriching its nations.

• NHPA has welcomed a report confirming racial bias by medical schemes.

This comes after an independent investigation panel found that black professionals were up to five times more likely to be investigated and penalised. NHPA chairperson Donald Gumede told Newzroom Afrika that medical schemes spied on black doctors, coerced them, and accused them of fraud. Gumede wants the government to create a fair, independent body to deal with such cases.
