Most major apps and games used by children have parental control tools. It is always best to use these tools whenever available. The 2 parental control tools that are a must are Google Family Link and Apple's Screen Time (better with Apple Family Sharing) as they allow you to manage content age restrictions across apps, games, and media, and offer additional features like setting screen time limits, seeing device location, and managing app store or in-app purchases.

People and parents, who are used to living and operating without the platforms and tools offered by the digital world, can find it difficult to understand and use digital platforms (maybe even unnecessary or silly). However, it's difficult to talk to your children or protect them from things you don't know.

Here's a challenge: download Roblox, TikTok, or Fortnite, spend an hour trying to see what the game or app is about, Google questions you might have, and then do some reading about the parental control tools. You'll see, it may even come easy to you. Even if it doesn't, it is necessary.

A general parenting tip that really helps with digital parenting is understanding that your first reaction to what your child tells you or what you find out about them (from teachers at school, for example) will likely determine what they tell you or hide from you.
