| The case against a 55-year-old man, who is accused of ra**ng and assaulting his six-year-old daughter, has been postponed to 9 September 2025.

The accused appeared before the Mankweng Magistrate’s Court today, where the matter was moved from Court B to Court A to allow the consolidation of charges of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and r**e.

Residents from Mothapo Ga Mogoa village , who attended the court proceedings, protested outside the courthouse demanding that the accused be denied bail. They also called for the arrest of the victim’s mother, accusing her of failing to report the abuse after realizing the child was being mistreated.

The accused’s brother, whose name cannot be disclosed to protect the identity of the child, described the incident as shameful.

Residents of Ga-Mothapo say a man accused of ra**ng his six-year-old daughter must be banished from their village.

The suspect, who is believed to be 55 years old from Ward 7 will make his appearance at Mankweng Magistrate’s Court, tomorrow.

Neighbourhood Watch spokesperson Madia Prince says the child has been abused since birth and was later identified at school as a victim of sexual abuse.

Prince says residents are outraged that the child was also severely beaten by her parents to stop her from speaking out.

He adds that the community does not want the accused to be granted bail.

R**E SUSPECT STILL AT LARGE IN GA-MAKANYE

Ga-Makanye mother says she is devastated that a man suspected of ra**ng her teenage daughter is still walking free.

The zimbabwean national who is now residing in Makanye alleges that her 15-year-old daughter was r**ed by a man believed to be a neighbour and also a zimbabwean national. The incident was reported to the police through Thuthuzela Centre in Mankweng on 4 August 2025, but the suspect has not yet been arrested. The woman alleges that the suspect offered her money in an attempt to stop her from opening a case, claiming that, since they are from the same country, they should resolve the matter privately but she refused.

| POLICE ARREST MAN FOR BRUTAL MURDER OF GIRLFRIEND IN MANKWENG**

The police in Mankweng have arrested a 40-year-old man for allegedly murdering his 32-year-old girlfriend at his home in Nobody Thakgalang village on Monday night.

Police spokesperson Brigadier Hlulani Mashaba says officers were called to the scene around 8:30pm and found the woman lying in a pool of blood inside the house. She had multiple stab wounds and was certified dead on the scene. An axe, believed to have been used in the attack, was recovered.

Preliminary investigations suggest the man assaulted the victim before contacting her family, who then discovered her body. He later attempted su***de at home and crashed his car near Savanna Mall. He was taken to hospital under police guard and has been charged with murder.

Provincial Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has condemned the incident, urging communities to report abuse before it escalates to fatal violence.

The suspect will appear in the Mankweng Magistrate’s Court soon. Police investigations are continuing.

Hadebe Urges Church to Pray for SAPS and Ramaphosa’s Investigation Commission

The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, has called on the church to pray for wisdom for the commission appointed by President Cyril Ramaphosa to investigate allegations made against SAPS officials by KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi.

Speaking at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Mankweng this morning during the Police Sunday programme, Hadebe stressed the importance of honesty among police officials. She also urged the church to pray for SAPS members in Limpopo, saying they face enormous challenges in carrying out their duties.

Sahara Village, Mamabolo. The family of 49-year-old Annah Makhafola, who has been missing since 20 June 2025, is appealing to the public for assistance in locating her.

Makhafola, who is mentally challenged, was last seen leaving her home in Sahara Village without informing anyone where she was going. She was last seen wearing a blue towel and a black top with orange stripes.

Family and friends have searched extensively, including places she frequently visited, but efforts to locate her have been unsuccessful.

Her daughter, Ronel Makhafola, says the family is extremely worried and urges anyone with information to come forward.

MANKWENG, LIMPOPO
A 35-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly killing a 13-month-old baby and injuring the child’s mother, his ex-girlfriend, by driving over them with a pickup van.

According to police, the woman and her child were waiting for a taxi to Segopye village on Friday evening around 8 o’clock, when the suspect approached and confronted her. The woman boarded a taxi with her child, but the driver soon noticed that a pickup van was following them.

The victims got off at Marothi (Makwalaneng) Cross, where the suspect allegedly drove over them at high speed and fled the scene.

Both victims were rushed to Mankweng Hospital. The baby later died from her injuries, while the mother sustained leg injuries.

Police have opened cases of murder and attempted murder. The suspect is expected to appear in the Mankweng Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 28 July 2025.

| Six Initiates and Surgeon Injured

The MEC for Cooperative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs, Mr Basikopo Makamu, has expressed deep shock following a fire incident at a legal private initiation school in Maake Village, outside Tzaneen.

The fire broke out around 11PM on Tuesday, 1 July 2025, injuring six initiates and a traditional surgeon, who is also the principal of the school. While the fire was eventually contained, all seven individuals sustained injuries.

Five of the initiates are currently in stable condition at Dr C.N. Phatudi Hospital, while one has been transferred to Letaba Hospital for further medical attention. The surgeon has since been discharged.

MEC Makamu, accompanied by members of the Provincial Initiation Coordination Committee led by Hosi Sh*tlhangoma Chauke, visited the injured initiates at Dr C.N. Phatudi Hospital on Wednesday to offer support and words of comfort.

Makamu described the incident as “shocking,” especially after all the extensive safety preparations made ahead of the season. He wished the injured a speedy recovery and offered sympathies to the affected families.

The remaining 18 initiates are reported to be safe, and a temporary initiation facility has been set up to allow them to complete the season. The department has pledged continued collaboration with health, education, SAPS, and the National Prosecuting Authority to ensure the safety and legality of the 2025 initiation season.
