STATE WITHDRAWS MAIN PERJURY CHARGE AGAINST MKHWEBANE

PRETORIA - In a major legal development, the State has withdrawn the founding and main charge of perjury against former Public Protector Advocate Busisiwe Mkhwebane. 39ff

The withdrawal happened at the Pretoria Regional Court and changes the direction of the criminal case which stems from her 2017 Absa/Bankorp investigation. 39ff

Mkhwebane had been facing five charges linked to the main perjury count. With the primary charge withdrawn, the remaining four counts are also expected to fall away.

The matter has been postponed to 30 September 2026 for her legal team to argue that she should be discharged.

'MAGIC MAN' BRINGS WBC SUPER FLYWEIGHT BELT HOME

South African boxer Ricardo 'Magic Man' Malajika is the new WBC Super Flyweight champion.

Malajika achieved this feat by beating Tomoya Tsuboi by split decision in Tokyo,Japan on Sunday 27 September 2026.

Malajika also holds the IBO junior flyweight belt.

South Africa now has the following world boxing champions:
1.Ricardo Malajika- WBC Super flyweight champion and IBO junior flyweight champion.
2.Siyaholwa Kuse-WBC mini-flyweight champion.
3.Mpumelelo Tshabalala-IBO junior flyweight champion.

BAFANA TAKES ON ERITREA IN AN AFCON 2027 QUALIFIER

The South African national football team,Bafana Bafana will lock horns with Eritrea in an AFCON 2027 qualifier at Al-Salam stadium in Cairo, Egypt on Wednesday, 30 September 2026.

Last weekend Bafana secured a narrow 2-1 victory over Guinea at the Orlando Amstel Arena, Johannesburg.

SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS AND COLD WEATHER

Residents in Limpopo, Mpumalanga and Gauteng are urged to remain alert on Wednesday, 30 September 2026.

The South African Weather Service has issued a Yellow Level 2 warning for severe thunderstorms over Gauteng and parts of Limpopo. Heavy rain, strong winds, hail and lightning are expected.

The weather may cause localised flooding of roads and low-lying areas and possible damage to property.

Limpopo will be cloudy and cold with scattered showers and thunderstorms over central to western parts. Mpumalanga will be cloudy and cold to very cold with scattered showers. Gauteng will be cloudy and cold with scattered showers and thundershowers.

Motorists are advised to drive cautiously and avoid crossing flooded roads.

SIBIYA SERVED WITH PAPERS IN HIS CELL FOR A DISCLIPLINARY HEARING

Suspended Deputy National Police Commissioner Shadrack Sibiya has been served with papers in his cell for a discliplinary hearing on 5 October 2026.

The discliplinary process is linked to allegations of corruption that emerged during the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry.

Sibiya is also facing a seperate criminal case involving allegations of r**e, sexual grooming and trafficking.

Limpopo police commissioner Lt-General Jan Petrus Scheepers is expected to president over the hearing.

MISSING PERSON - MOTHER AND BABY FROM CHEBENG

The family of Kgwadi Mmakgao (22) is seeking assistance from the public to locate her and her baby.

Mmakgao is from Moletjie Chebeng and she left home with her baby boy aged 1 year and 1 month on 25 September 2026 and has not returned. Both the mother and baby have short hair and they were last seen in the Chebeng area.

Anyone with information on their whereabouts is urged to contact the sister, Mokgadi Kgwadi on 066 138 0958 or 069 767 1470, or the nearest police station.
