MAN ( 23 ) ACCUSED OF THE MURDER OF NHLAMULO SAMBO RELEASED DUE TO LACK OF EVIDENCE

MOSSEL BAY - A 23 - year old man who was arrested in connection to the stabbing incident of slain Nhlamulo Sambo has been released.

The accused was released to walk scott - free after the judge found no evidence linking to the brutally murder of the 18 - year old.

Sambo, a Hillcrest Secondary School learner was allegedly stabbed to death at Mossel Bay in the early hours of Sunday 31st May.

With two conflicting versions of the story coming out, the Police insisted that Sambo was stabbed after getting into an altercation with the owner of a shack that he was caught stealing at.

However, Nhlamulo's mother, Mkateko Sambo rejected the police's version, insisting that her son was killed because he was Tsonga as he was murdered in the same night as the other five Mozambicans who lost their lives in the attack.

Nhlamulo's father, Steve Kamwendo from Nigeria support the claims from the mother of his child, insisting that the slain teenager was murdered as he was mistaken as a foreign national.

The attack on illegal immigrants saw 55 shacks being destroyed as anti - immigrant protests gained momentum in the area.

Speaking to eNCA shortly after his release on Friday, the suspect said that he found Nhlamulo in a critical condition during the protest and asked him if an ambulance was called.. however the Giyani born took his last breath as he was succumbing to stab wounds.

With the suspect released and off the hook, more questions arise as to why the 18 - year-old was stabbed.

Sambo is expected to be laid to rest in Giyani this weekend.

MISSING GRADE 12 LEARNER FOUND R***D AND MURDERED IN THE NORTH WEST

RUSTENBURG - What began as a desperate search for a missing teenager has ended in heartbreak for a family, friends, and the Boitekong community.

The remains of 18-year-old Olebogeng Felicia Tagote, who was reported missing after she was last seen on Sunday, 24 May 2026, have been found. The discovery has left many residents shocked and saddened.

According to the South African Police Service (SAPS), Olebogeng was last seen by a friend after they left school together. Following her disappearance, police, family members, and community members searched extensively for the teenager, while investigators followed up on numerous leads.

On Tuesday, 3 June 2026, human remains were discovered near a bridge along Bophuthatswana Road leading to Boitekong, close to a local primary school. The discovery was made during a coordinated search operation involving SAPS, Community in Blue, and members of the community.

A family member who was present at the scene identified the remains as those of Olebogeng. Police confirmed that the body was found in a partially decomposed state and that the cause of death has not yet been determined.

Preliminary investigations indicate that Olebogeng may have been sexually assaulted, as she was found partially clothed. As a result, police are investigating cases of both murder and r**e.

Police investigations are continuing, and anyone who may have information that could assist is urged to contact detective sergeant Patrick Sebalane on 060 142 0796 or detective sergeant Peter Mosete on 078 926 3810. Information can also be reported anonymously via Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or through the MySAPS App.
