POLOKWANE TENDER HIGHLIGHTS | R8 MILLION MAKORO FOUNDATION BANK BALANCE

Polokwane Mayor, John Mpe says there is a false claim that R8 Million was deposited into his Makoro John Mpe Foundation.

Mpe says the inception of the Foundation, it has never reflected a balance of R8 Million.

He says the claim was fabricated and these are lies that are deliberately manufactured to erode public trust in institutions of leadership.

MAN ( 30 ) ARRESTED FOR RA**NG AND IMPREGNATING HIS 14 - YEAR OLD GIRL'

THOHOYANDOU : A 30 year old male suspect has been arrested in connection with the r**e of a minor victim at Tsh*tereke village in Thohoyandou, Vhembe District.

Preliminary investigations revealed that on Wednesday 16 July 2025 at about 09:00, the mother of a 14 year-old victim was called by her school Principal at the premise.

Upon arrival, she was asked to take her daughter from the school because she was not feeling well and they rushed to the clinic to receive medical attention.

The medical practitioner examined the victim and discovered that she was pregnant and immediately informed her mother about the matter.

Reports suggest that the girls mother asked her daughter as to who impregnated her and she managed to positively managed to describe the identity of the suspect and even to provide information as to the location of where the father of her unborn child was coming from.

The matter was relorted to police who then opened, a r**e case and members of the Provincial Intervention Team jointly with Thohoyandou Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offenses (FCS) activated a manhunt of the suspect.

On Tuesday 22 July 2025, a 30 year-old male suspect was subsequently nabbed at Tsh*tereke village.

The suspect will appear before the Thohoyandou Magistrate court soon facing a charge of r**e of a minor.

SHOCK AS APPRECIATE MAKHUBELE APPEARS IN COURT FOR MURDER

GA-SEKGOPO - A 30-year-old suspect, Appreciate Makhubele, appeared in the Modjadjiskloof Magistrate’s Court in Mopani District today, 24 July.

Makhubele appeared on charges of murder following the death of a young man allegedly assaulted at his rehabilitation camp.

According to Limpopo’s NPA, the victim and his brother were sent to the accused’s camp by their mother, where the deceased was reportedly assaulted with a chain and pipe, isolated despite visible injuries, and unable to walk or bathe himself.

After being returned home and hospitalized on 10 July, the victim died two days later.

A post-mortem on 18 July confirmed severe injuries, and Makhubele was arrested on 22 July following an inquest opened earlier that week.

The case has been postponed to 31 July 2025 for a formal bail application.

NO LAW PROHIBITS THE MUNICIPALITY FROM AWARDING TENDERS TO FOREIGN NATIONALS - SAYS MAYOR MPE

POLOKWANE : Polokwane Mayor John Mpe has defended the awarding of tenders to several companies belonging to foreign nationals.

The Mayor was briefing members of the media in Polokwane on Thursday following allegations that the Municipality has awarded several tenders owned by Zimbabwean nationals.

Mpe says the law does not prohibit him from appointing foreign nationals to run tenders for the municipalty projects.

He says they awarded R360 million tender but half of that was awarded to a foreign national. This means the foreign national company pocketed over R180-million rands.

"The same foreign tenderpreneurs are being used in other municipalities and government departments in Limpopo, said Mpe.

When asked about how many companies belonging to foreign nationals were awarded tenders by the municipality, Mpe did not divulge.

Mpe also says they will Institute lifestyle audit to all their employees even the Municipal Manager. This after concerns were raised that the City Manager is building a personal home worth R20-million from tender kickbacks.

POLOKWANE MUNICIPALITY HOLDS PRESS CONFERENCE OVER TENDER ALLEGATIONS

POLOKWANE - City of Polokwane Mayor John Mpe is currently addressing the media following explosive allegations in awarding of tenders.

This follows allegations that the Municipality has awarded Zimbabwe owned companies tenders worth millions in the 2022 / 23 financial year.

REHABILITATION CENTER OWNER ARRESTED FOR MURDER OF 29 YEAR-OLD MALE VICTIM IN MODJADJI

POLOKWANE: A 30 year-old owner of a Rehabilitation Center was arrested in Mopani District in connection with a murder of a 29 year-old male victim who passed on after being admitted in a critical condition at Mankweng hospital on 12 July 2025.

On 02 July 2025 at about 14:00, a 30 year-old male suspect departed with a 29 year-old victim from his residence at Ga-Sekgopo village and brought him to the Rehabilitation Center under Modjadjiskloof policing area.

The victim was allegedly assaulted over his body and later locked inside an isolated room while swollen and having bruises. The victim according to information was struggling to walk and unable to bath until he was taken back to his residence at Ga-Sekgopo village on 10 July 2025.

He was immediately rushed to Mankweng hospital under Capricorn District and admitted in a critical condition. On 14 July 2025, a 29 year-old male succumbed to his injuries at the medical facility and a case of inquest was registered at Mankweng police station.

Forensic Post-mortem Analysis was conducted on 18 July 2025 and a Pathologist confirmed that the deceased has sustained severe injuries. A case of an inquest was then changed to murder on Monday 21 July 2025 and transferred to Modjadjiskloof police for further investigations.

An immediate manhunt of the suspect was executed by the members of Mopani Tracking Team together with Modjadjiskloof police until the suspect was subsequently apprehended the next day in the policing area on Tuesday 22 July 2025 and charged with the murder .

The suspect is expected to appear before the Modjadjiskloof District court on Thursday 24 July 2025 facing a charge of murder.

PAKISTAN SPAZA SHOP OWNER SOUGHT FOR THE R**E OF A 12 YEAR OLD GIRL IN BURGERSFORT

POLOKWANE: The Police Detectives in Burgesfort are in the lookout for a Pakistan man who is believed to have r**ed a 12 - year old girl in Burgersfort.

The man in question is a foreign national from Pakistan and only known as Adino.

According to information, on Thursday, 2025-05-15, the victim aged 12 left her home at Ga-Mampa Village, in Mecklenburg Policing area, and went to local spazashop.

She found the suspect busy with other customers. After they left, she approached him and asked him the plastics to make a ball, as she used to go to the shop with her friends. Unfortunately, that day, the suspect took advantage of her and ultimately ended up ra**ng her.

She managed to escape during the ordeal and ran to her residence, wherein she reported this heinous act to her mother.

The victim's mother apparently confronted the suspect about the incident, and she also told him that she was going to report him to police.

The matter was indeed reported to the Police and a case of r**e was opened. Since then, the suspect was never seen at the village, and a manhunt was launched to track and trace him without success

Police call upon the male person pictured below to report to his nearest police station as it is believed that he might assist the Police in resolving this case.

R9, 7 MILLION MADOANA & MACHOAMA WATER PROJECT TO BENEFIT 1051 HOUSEHOLDS

The Madoana and Machoana water project in the Blouberg & Molemole Local Municipalities is set to benefit over 1051 households.

The project was handed by Capricorn District Municipality Executive Mayor, Mamedupi Teffo on Tuesday, accompanied by Blouberg Municipality Mayor, Maria Thamaga.

The villages were severely affected by water shortage for years.

The project - which is worth almost R10 Million took seven months to complete after it began in December 2024.

ONLY 24 GNT BUSSES ARE OPERATIONAL

POLOKWANE: Premier Dr Phophi Ramathuba says she was disappointed to see an appalling state of decay and dilapidated busses which are not maintained.

Ramathuba was accompanied by MEC Tsh*tereke Matibe of LEDET, HOD Matodzi Rathumbu, Chairperson of LEDET and other officials on Tuesday.

Only twenty four Great North Transport ( GNT ) busses are operating however she indicated the dire need for government to resolve the challenges and find amicable solutions to rehabilitate the Great North Transport (GNT) for the people of Limpopo who utilize this mode of transport, moreover, she alluded to the fact that as government we can not allow GNT to be liquidated.

Over several broken busses remain parked at the depot, gathering dust while those in operation sometimes broke down due to mechanical failures.

IDENTITY OF A SIX-YEAR-OLD BOY WHO DIED FROM A STRAY BULLET IN SESHEGO REVEALED

SESHEGO – The identity of a six-year-old boy who was fatally struck by a stray bullet in Juju Valley informal settlement in Seshego has been revealed.

Solomon Mphaka was playing outside a residence when he suddenly collapsed on Friday, 18 July 2025 at around 11:45.

According to reports, the child was playing at a neighbour's shack while his mother sat nearby, watching the children. Moments later, the young boy suddenly collapsed.

Upon checking on him, they noticed that he was bleeding from the head. His mother quickly sought help from a nearby resident, who assisted in transporting the child to a local hospital.

Medical personnel conducted an X-ray and discovered that a bullet was lodged in the boy’s head, just above his left ear.

Arrangements were immediately made to transfer him to Polokwane for further medical care, but tragically, the child passed away before he could be moved.

A preliminary police investigation indicates that the child was struck by a stray bullet. However, no witnesses in the area reported hearing any gunshots at the time of the incident.

The circumstances surrounding the incident are being investigated, and a case of murder has been opened at Seshego Police Station.

Mphaka was a Grade 1 learner at the time of his death.

MONGATANE RAMAPHOKO SWORN IN AS MEMBER OF POLOKWANE COUNCIL

POLOKWANE : Cllr Mongatane 'Ntjeza' Ramaphoko of the Economic Freedom Fighters was officially sworn in as a member of the Polokwane Municipal Council on Tuesday, 22 July.

'Ntjeza' clinched victory for the EFF in the recent Polokwane Ward 13 by - elections held last week in Seshego.

The oath of office was administered by Senior Magistrate Godfrey Nethiozwo at the Polokwane Magistrate's Court.

The swearing-in ceremony was conducted under the oversight of the Chairperson of the Municipal Public Accounts Committee (MPAC), Cllr Mapula Phoshoko, who represented the Council Speaker, Cllr Kobela Welheminah Modiba.

Cllr Ramaphoko assumes the seat previously held by Cllr Mathews Mafiwa Leballo, who has vacated the position in accordance with applicable legislative and procedural provisions.
