LIMPOPO WOMEN’S DAY | 70 YEARS OF THE 1956 WOMEN’S MARCH

Limpopo Premier Dr Phophi Ramathuba has called for greater empowerment, protection and economic participation of women during the 70th anniversary commemoration of the 1956 Women’s March at Ga-Monyeki, Lephalale.

Speaking under the theme “Empowered Women Empower Nations,” the Premier highlighted progress made since 1994 in women’s leadership, agriculture, healthcare, entrepreneurship and education.

She also announced initiatives aimed at developing future women leaders, supporting women farmers and businesses, improving maternal healthcare, and strengthening the fight against gender-based violence.

The Premier emphasised that the struggle of the women of 1956 continues today, urging society to honour their legacy through action, equality and opportunity for women.

That’s a wrap from the Limpopo Provincial Government 2026 Youth Month Launch in Bela-Bela.

Addressing the gathering, Tony Rachoene emphasized the importance of young people fighting for their space in society and taking an active role in shaping the future of their communities. He urged the youth to participate in local government elections and ensure their voices are heard through democratic processes.

Meanwhile, Dieketseng Mashego encouraged young people to make responsible life choices, exercise caution in their relationships, and consistently use condoms to protect themselves against sexually transmitted infections, HIV, and unplanned pregnancies.

The 2026 Youth Month programme is being commemorated under the theme “RESET@50 – The Future Calls”, marking 50 years since the 1976 Soweto Youth Uprising and reaffirming the role of young people in building South Africa’s future.
