He makes all things beautiful in the fullness of time.
Rudo sat on the edge of their bed, gazing at the small, framed photograph of her wedding day. The memories of that day felt so close, as though it had been only yesterday. Her wedding to Tendai had been everything she had dreamed of—a simple yet beautiful celebration of love in Harare's Warren Park. They had exchanged vows under a bright sky, surrounded by family, friends, and a shared faith in God.
It had been two years since that day, and now, Rudo was facing a silence that was slowly consuming her heart. The laughter of children that filled their home had yet to come. They had hoped and prayed, but despite their faith, nothing had changed. Her womb remained empty.
Tendai, always patient and full of love, held her hand through each tear and each prayer. He told her, “God’s timing is perfect, Rudo. We don’t know why this is happening, but we can trust that He knows what is best for us.” His words comforted her, but they didn’t take away the ache. The longing for a child grew with every passing day, and as much as she loved Tendai, she couldn’t help but wonder if God had forgotten about them.
The pressure from family began to mount. Tendai’s relatives, though loving, had started to ask questions. At first, it was gentle. “Rudo, when are you two going to start a family? It’s time now, isn’t it?” The questions, though innocent, felt like a weight around her chest. It was as if the world was silently judging them. Tendai’s parents, especially, would look at them with concern, and although they never said it directly, it was clear they were waiting for the good news they so desperately wanted to hear.
But the good news never came.
Rudo found herself avoiding family gatherings, the celebrations of new babies, and the conversations that always ended with “When will you have children?” Each time someone asked, it felt like a dagger in her heart. She wasn’t sure how much longer she could keep pretending that everything was fine.
One evening, after a particularly painful visit to Tendai’s family, she sat on the couch, staring at the television but not really seeing it. Tendai sat beside her, his arm around her shoulders, but he could sense her distance. The silence between them spoke louder than words.
“I don’t know how to keep going, Tendai,” Rudo finally whispered. “What if God has forgotten us? What if we’re not meant to have children?” She felt a knot tighten in her throat as tears welled up in her eyes.
Tendai took a deep breath, his voice steady and full of love. “Rudo, God hasn’t forgotten us. He has not left us. This is not the end of our story, but just a chapter. We’ve been through hard times before, and God has always been there for us. We will get through this together, with Him by our side.”
But Rudo wasn’t so sure anymore. She felt lost in the silence, in the unanswered prayers. It seemed like everyone around her had found their joy, while she and Tendai were stuck in a waiting room of endless longing.
Days turned into weeks, and the pain began to feel like a heavy weight she couldn’t shake. One night, after lying in bed staring at the ceiling, she prayed in desperation. "Lord, please hear my cry. I trust You, but I am so tired. I want to be a mother. I want to give my husband the child we’ve prayed for. Please, show me a sign that You are still here."
The next day, Rudo went to church, feeling empty and disconnected. As she sat in the pew, the pastor spoke words that seemed to pierce her soul. “God knows the desires of your heart. He hears every prayer, and though you may not understand why things aren’t happening on your timeline, trust that His plan is always good. Sometimes, we have to hold on through the silence, knowing that He is at work in ways we can’t see.”
Rudo felt a deep stirring in her heart. She was still afraid, still uncertain, but something in her shifted that day. Maybe God wasn’t silent. Maybe He was asking her to trust Him, even when the answers didn’t come the way she expected.
That evening, as she and Tendai prayed together before bed, Rudo felt a renewed sense of peace. She still didn’t know why they hadn’t conceived yet, but she realized that faith wasn’t just about getting what she wanted. It was about trusting God’s wisdom, His timing, and His plan for their lives.
Weeks passed, and Rudo and Tendai continued to pray. They poured themselves into serving others, helping at church, and volunteering in their community. They supported couples who struggled with their own challenges, offering words of encouragement. In doing so, Rudo began to find a joy that wasn’t tied to her own longing. It was a joy in knowing that God was using them to bless others.
And then, one day, a few months later, Rudo’s body began to change. She didn’t think much of it at first—just a bit more tired than usual. But when her period was late, she felt a flutter of hope in her chest. Could this be it?
She waited a few more days, too afraid to believe it. But when she finally took a pregnancy test, her heart nearly stopped. It was positive.
Rudo couldn’t contain her joy. She ran to Tendai, her hands shaking as she held up the test. Tendai’s face lit up with disbelief and joy as he embraced her. "Rudo, we did it. God has blessed us."
Tears streamed down Rudo’s face as she whispered, “We’ve waited so long, Tendai. I can’t believe this is finally happening.”
Their joy was not just in the pregnancy, but in the journey they had walked together. It had been a journey of faith, of heartache, of waiting, and of trusting that God’s plan was better than their own. Rudo knew that the child they were going to have was a miracle, not just of biology, but of God’s love and perfect timing.
As the months went on, Rudo’s pregnancy was filled with peace, the kind that only comes from trusting in God’s plan. When their baby boy, Tinashe, was born, Rudo held him in her arms and whispered, “You are our miracle.”
Rudo and Tendai’s journey wasn’t over. There would be more challenges, more waiting, but they knew one thing for sure: They were never alone. God had been with them through it all, and His love had carried them to this beautiful moment.
Rudo had learned that faith wasn’t about getting everything she wanted; it was about trusting that God’s timing, though sometimes painful, was always perfect. And that was the true miracle.
