➡️ Clarence Mlokoti (pictured) was a former Chairman and Director of Kaizer Chiefs Football Club.
➡️ Before joining Kaizer Chiefs, Mlokoti served as an executive member of Orlando Pirates, during a period of internal conflict between the club’s executive and several players.
➡️ The dispute led to the suspension of three players Zero Johnson, Ratha Mokgoatlheng, and Edward Msomi... just before a crucial match against Highlands Park.
➡️ When no resolution was reached, Mlokoti, along with other Orlando Pirates members including Ewert Nene, China Ngema, Gilbert Sekhabi, Sigemfunga Buthelezi, J. Mamashelo, and Peggy “Bell Air” Senne, decided to break away and form a new team.
➡️ Around that time, Kaizer Motaung, who was playing for Atlanta Chiefs in the United States, returned home. Upon learning of the developments, he supported the idea of forming a new club and took the lead in recruiting players, assisted by Ngema, Nene, Sekhabi, and others.
➡️ Once recruitment was completed, the new team was named Kaizer XI, with Motaung serving as both player and coach.
➡️ Motaung’s name and reputation were instrumental in attracting attention and credibility to the new club. Hence his name was used to attract numbers.
➡️ To gain official recognition in the National Professional Soccer League (NPSL), the club needed to affiliate with a local and provincial football body and win the professional promotions competition. However, no Johannesburg-based organization was willing to affiliate with the new team.
➡️ The breakthrough came when Matt Mphahane, President of the Nigel Football Association, agreed to register the team, a significant step that allowed the club to compete professionally.
➡️ Following registration, the team’s name was officially changed from Kaizer XI to Kaizer Chiefs.
➡️ Kaizer Chiefs became the first black football club in South Africa to establish a board of directors. The board consisted of Ewert Nene, Kaizer Motaung, Gilbert Sikhabi and Clarance Mlokoti..... Clarence Mlokoti was appointed as the Chairman, a position he held for 10 years before handing over to Kaizer Motaung.
➡️ Initially, Motaung was reluctant to assume the chairmanship due to his youth, but by 1980, the board members, including Motaung himself, agreed that it was time for him to take over leadership of the club.
➡️ In later years, tragedy struck when Clarence Mlokoti was gunned down in a car hijacking incident while leaving home with his family. - copied from Zesty Wabholo Live
