Nathan replied, "The Lord has taken away your sin. You are not going to die. But because by doing this you have shown utter contempt for the Lord, the son born to you will die."
The Lord struck the child that Uriah's wife borne to David, and he became ill...On the seventh day the child died.
2 Samuel 12:13-15,18
This passage of Scripture shows and teaches us a couple of very important things.
1.God can take away sin, for us as Christians He did this through His Son Jesus see John 3:16&17.
2.Sin has dire consequences, see Romans 3:23
Alot of people today make the mistake of thinking because we are grace people then we can commit sin and there will be no consequences but that is a lie from the pit of hell, God is Holy and hates sin.
3. God doesn't tolerate contempt, think about it
I beg you, see Moses Sister got struck with leprosy just by showing contempt to her younger brother Moses, who was a prophet called and sent by God, Dathan and his colleagues died in an unlikely way for showing contempt to Aaron the High priest, I could go on but sure you get the point.
Now if we are all guilty of sin, then we all have to repent and confess our sin, forsake it and follow Christ. God can and has forgiven us our sin and has taken it away forever, by repentance and confession we receive this free gift.
But what about contempt, we'll it's why we have Christians in prison doing time, God forgave them the moment they asked Him for it though but contempt must be punished.
