Minnie Dlamini sues MacG and Sol for R2.5 million over misogynistic remarks

Television personality Minnie Dlamini has filed a R2.5 million lawsuit against podcaster MacGyver “MacG” Mukwevho and co-host Sol Phenduka in the Equality Court, accusing them of hate speech, harassment, and gender-based discrimination, report Sunday World.

The legal action follows remarks made on Podcast and Chill where MacG speculated about Dlamini’s private life, implying that her alleged relationship failures were maybe due to personal hygiene issues. Dlamini has described the comments as dehumanizing and damaging to her dignity.

She is seeking R1 million for the impairment of her dignity and a further R1.5 million to be paid to a women’s rights organisation.

This comes after years of alleged ongoing harassment from the show, which Dlamini claims intensified after she publicly supported actress Amanda du-Pont in a separate gender-based violence case.

Government has since condemned the remarks, with Deputy Minister Mmapaseka Steve Letsike labeling them as gender-based violence and referring the matter to human rights institutions for further investigation.

Dlamini has rejected MacG’s public apology, stating that accountability must be enforced through legal channels.

According to police, Phokane was stabbed multiple times during an altercation and died at the scene. The motive behind the attack remains unknown.

The suspect has been arrested and a murder investigation is underway as the community expresses shock and grief over the violent incident.

Cape Town City wins SAFA case in bid to avoid relegation

Cape Town City FC has been handed a potential lifeline in their fight to stay in the Betway Premiership after winning a crucial arbitration case at the South African Football Association (SAFA).

The ruling compels the Premier Soccer League (PSL) Disciplinary Committee to investigate allegations that Durban City FC fielded an ineligible player during their promotion campaign. At the heart of the matter is a disputed transfer clearance, which Cape Town City claims was issued by the wrong club.

City, who finished 15th in the 2024/25 season and faced relegation, argue that Magawana’s registration breached league rules. Their protest was previously rejected by the PSL’s Dispute Resolution Chamber, but the SAFA arbitration outcome now forces a formal disciplinary inquiry.

“This is a massive step forward for us,” said Cape Town City chairman John Comitis. “SAFA’s decision validates our belief in pursuing what’s right.”

Should the PSL rule in City’s favour, Durban City’s promotion could be overturned, potentially reinstating Cape Town City in the top tier for the upcoming season.

With the Disciplinary Committee now under pressure to act swiftly, the outcome could reshape the final composition of the 2025/26 Premiership season.

Hawks drop probe into Polokwane mayor John Mpe, face R1.2 million legal bill

The Hawks have formally withdrawn their corruption investigation into Polokwane Executive Mayor John Mpe, ending months of legal wrangling and controversy.

In a filing submitted to the Polokwane High Court on Thursday, the elite crime-fighting unit also agreed to pay Mpe’s legal costs amounting to R1.2 million.

The probe, launched in November 2024, stemmed from allegations that Mpe and his Makoro Foundation received questionable donations from a company doing business with the Polokwane Municipality in 2023.

Investigators had sought access to the city's gift register but have now abandoned their case without offering a public explanation.

The Hawks' application, originally scheduled to be heard on July 29, was withdrawn by lead investigator Ngoako Kgatle. In court papers, the agency confirmed it would no longer pursue the matter and would cover the mayor's taxed legal fees.

Mpe, in his affidavit, slammed the investigation as baseless and politically driven. “The investigation by the Hawks is seemingly conducted without transparency, causing significant prejudice to me and the Makoro Foundation,” he stated.

The withdrawal arrives at a time of heightened scrutiny over Polokwane’s municipal affairs. Recent reports of tender fraud worth over R700 million have rocked the city, with both Mpe and Municipal Manager Thuso Nemugumoni facing allegations claims Mpe has dismissed as a politically motivated smear campaign.

Meanwhile, the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) are pushing for a Special Investigating Unit (SIU) probe into the municipality, citing ongoing concerns about corruption and mismanagement.

Despite the Hawks' retreat, questions remain about the strength of their evidence and the handling of sensitive political investigations. Mpe continues to deny all wrongdoing and has vowed to uphold clean governance.

The Polokwane Municipality has yet to issue a statement on the matter.

DJ Sumbody murder tied to deadly underworld drug dispute

The 2022 assassination of popular music producer and Ayepyep Lifestyle co-founder DJ Sumbody has been linked to a violent underworld feud involving a missing multimillion-rand drug consignment, according to a Sunday World investigation.

DJ Sumbody, along with his bodyguards Sibusiso Mokoena and Sandile Myeza, was gunned down in a hail of AK-47 fire in Woodmead, Johannesburg, shortly after a performance at News Cafe. Until now, the motive behind the brutal killing remained unclear.

Emerging reports suggest the hit was triggered by the disappearance of a major drug consignment that allegedly went missing from police custody in KwaZulu-Natal. The drugs later resurfaced in Johannesburg’s club scene, sold at cut-rate prices, a move that infuriated its original owners, an alleged criminal syndicate known as “The Big Five.”

Four suspects, including businessman Katiso “KT” Molefe, aged between 45 and 60, were arrested this week in connection with the murder.

Though DJ Sumbody had a clean public image, sources say he was unknowingly drawn into the dispute. Industry insiders claim he was approached by individuals linked to the consignment to arrange a meeting with a Cape Town businessman, while opening a new branch of his Ayepyep nightclub in the city.

“It’s not clear if he knew the meeting was drug-related, but his involvement, even if indirect, made him a target,” one associate told Sunday World.

The Cape Town businessman, reportedly known to law enforcement, is believed to have tipped off “The Big Five” in an attempt to clear his name resulting in DJ Sumbody being placed on a hit list for “knowing too much.”

Investigators say the case remains open, with fears that more arrests could follow. The killing has exposed a murky overlap between South Africa’s entertainment industry, organised crime, and allegations of police corruption.
