Some basics to keep in mind..

Some people just don't know where to start. This is just comes naturally. It can be overwhelming in the beginning. You just need inspiration, tools and advice!

So where do you start.
Start from the floor. Once you have the rug you want, move to the furniture. It's super difficult to match a rug after you picked your furniture, lamps and art.

Go from big to small. For example; pick all your sofas, chairs and tables. Then you go on to lamps and art. BUT I would suggest you pick all of your furniture before you pick your wall paint. It's much easier to pick paint that will match your furniture.

Choose a wall that will be your focal point, before you pick your layout. For instance, a fireplace, big plants or artwork, wall paneling, anything that immediately draws your attention. Your furniture layout is then determined afterwards. Move your furniture facing away from the feature wall. And don't block your view of the feature wall.

Don't go all matchy matchy... you don't want visible sets all over your space. Rather go for different things that compliment each other.

You need balance. Whether it's symmetrical or asymmetrical. You need to level out the visual weight. You can't have a lot of heavy dark furniture on the one side and a small plant on the other side.

When using a specific material like wood or a metal, you need to spread it around your room, not just on one side. You get my drift.

Paint...
View the swatches in the room that you will be painting and parallel with the wall! Lighting differs in all areas. Order some samples and paint them on your wall. This will give you a super accurate idea of how it will look. Preferably on top of white.

Back to the rug.
Size matters! When it comes to your dining room, all the furniture legs should fit on the rug. Even when you pull out the chairs. In the bedroom, the rug should extend on the sides and foot. Always choose a big enough rug to elevate your space.

Curtains...
The curtain rod should be at least 10 to 15 cm above your window or even all the way to the ceiling. This elongates your ceiling. Curtains should reach the floor.
