A dog’s life is a masterclass we keep ignoring.

No five-year plans. No yesterday regrets. No tomorrow anxiety. Just paws in the sand, nose in the wind, eyes on the horizon…

The sea stays steady.
The boat keeps its course.
The paraglider trusts the air.

Today, do the same.
Move forward calmly, rise when the moment comes, and let the horizon meet you halfway.

Objects in the rearview mirror are losing…and they’re behind you for a reason.

That mirror is tiny. The windscreen is massive. This is not an accident, it’s physics having a pep talk. What’s behind you has already had its turn… the bad decisions, the near misses, the oke who said “that’ll never work.” Finished. Done. Parked on the side of the N1 with a flat tyre and no signal.

Ahead is open road, clear skies and just enough danger to keep things interesting. Eyes forward, foot down, excuses off. You don’t check the mirror to go faster… you check it to make sure you’ve left enough dust.

History is useful for lessons, not directions.

Now drive.

Graaff-Reinet has a church that behaves a bit like a classic British sports car. It has been rebuilt, re-engineered, argued over, briefly split into two models, then finally reunited and polished to perfection.

The story starts modestly on Church Street in 1792. The first church caught fire in 1799. Slight setback. Version two arrived in 1800, then version three in 1823, which quietly did duty for sixty years like a dependable old Land Rover that refused to die.

Then, in 1887, things went full cathedral. The fourth church rose in dramatic Gothic Revival style, inspired by Salisbury Cathedral, all spires, arches and confidence. Foundation stone in 1886, doors open in 1887, and suddenly Graaff-Reinet had a skyline worth staring at.

In 1929, things got spicy. A disagreement split the congregation, resulting in the “Nuwe Kerk”, a fifth church with its own look and its own opinions. Two churches. One town. Awkward Sundays.

Fast forward to 2018... The congregations reunited, proving that even century-long arguments can be parked neatly in the church lot.

Today, this church is not just a place of worship. It is Graaff-Reinet’s architectural heartbeat, standing tall, elegant, and quietly reminding everyone that history, like great engineering, improves with time.

Oh yes, there will be a whole lot of this flooding my page this December. If you are in the waves at J-Bay, make it count. You might just see yourself here...

GST’s Beacon of Hope didn’t just switch on tonight. At exactly 8pm on 11 December, it rose from the darkness like a glowing proclamation stitched into the sky. Six kilometres of lights. Forty thousand LEDs. Enough brilliance to make the constellations take notes. But its power isn’t in the spectacle. It’s in the message. When GST CEO Johan Ingram pressed that button, it felt less like lighting a tree and more like rebooting the nation’s belief that hope is still alive and kicking.

And hope clearly got the memo.
It drifted to Thabazimbi and became the Beacon of Light.
It crossed into Nigeria and became the Beacon of Joy.
One idea, three landmarks, entire communities uplifted.

Tonight’s 45-metre titan, the tallest Christmas tree in South Africa and Africa, doesn’t measure its worth in metres. It measures it in fuel for the soul. Every flicker supports the Together We Eat Foundation, turning glow into generosity.

Every light is a meal.
Every shimmer is a promise.
Every heartbeat of colour is a reminder that tomorrow can be brighter.

If you’ve ever wished the world felt warmer, this is your cue. Step into the glow. Add your spark. Become part of the Beacon.

From above, Hartbeespoort Dam’s wall doesn’t just “look impressive.” It stands there like an ancient giant flexing its concrete muscles while the sun paints gold stripes down its face. The whole scene glows as if someone whispered “cinematic mode” into the sky and the universe obeyed.
