Ngizwe Mchunu calls for focus on results from memorandum

Suspended leader of March and March group, Ngizwe Mchunu, says the focus should now be on getting feedback from authorities instead of more street marches.

He stated that he has a clear plan moving forward. He also disagreed with Phakel'umthakathi and Jacinta Ngobese-Zuma, saying they do not share the same view on the way forward.

Mchunu concluded that attention should now turn to the response to the memorandum submitted during the previous march.

*GHANA SEEKS AU SUPPORT OVER CONCERNS ABOUT FOREIGN NATIONALS IN SOUTH AFRICA*

Ghana has announced it is engaging the African Union with support from ECOWAS member states regarding concerns about the treatment of foreign nationals in South Africa.

According to reports, Ghana says the issue warrants discussion at a continental level. ECOWAS represents 12 West African countries and is reportedly supporting Ghana’s engagement with the AU.

This comes amid ongoing public discussions in South Africa about immigration, border management, and community safety.

South African authorities have stated that they do not support violence against any group and have encouraged peaceful resolution of disputes while law enforcement addresses crime.

The AU may review the matter to help member states find common ground.

ZIMBABWE PARLIAMENT DEBATES APPROACH TO CROSS-BORDER RELATIONS*

A discussion took place in the Zimbabwean Parliament regarding how Zimbabwe manages relations with neighboring countries and foreign nationals living in Zimbabwe.

MP Clemence Chiduwa raised a question about reciprocity, noting reports of about 25,000 South African citizens residing in Zimbabwe. He also mentioned South African-owned businesses operating in the country, and asked whether Zimbabwe should review its policies in response to immigration matters affecting Zimbabweans abroad.

In response, Minister of Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Ziyambi Ziyambi said the government would not pursue nationality-based measures.
