A great Acclamation by Debut Programme , a Business and Arts South Africa initiative supported by Department of Sport, Arts and Culture. Congratulations CEO 🏆

: We caught up with Boitumelo Zitha, a creative force in theatre and film and one of our Provincial Liaisons. As both a lecturer and media professional, she is helping shape the future of storytelling in South Africa.

Here’s what they shared with us:

Q: How do you measure success in your role as a Provincial Liaison?
A: I measure success in my role through three key indicators: the increasing number of quality applications from Gauteng, the empowerment of unconventional entrepreneurs such as social justice activists and artisans and the transformation of participants who initially lacked business knowledge into confident pitchers after our workshops. For me, success involves bridging creativity with business acumen and amplifying diverse voices in the arts.

Q: How has your personal background influenced the way you approach your role as Provincial Liaison
A: My background as a Lecturer in Broadcasting Journalism, Film, and TV Production, along with my leadership of the Communication Students Association, has equipped me with essential skills in people and organization management, media engagement, and collaboration. I leverage these skills to connect creatives with industry professionals, promote media opportunities for Debut Programme participants, and bridge the gap between artistic vision and business viability.

Q: What strategies do you use to foster community and collaboration among the artists you work with?
A: To foster community and collaboration, I utilize various strategies, including leveraging my university network for reliable collaborations, facilitating industry networking, and encouraging peer-to-peer learning. I create inclusive programming with workshops for different artistic disciplines and provide ongoing mentorship to participants. These initiatives promote meaningful connections, collective growth, and innovation within the Debut Programme.

What an honour to be selected for 2 consecutive year by Gauteng Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation and Gauteng Film Commission
to create a Scriptwriting for Film & TV curriculum and to further coach, facilitate and mentor the Basetsana Scriptwriting and Directing Workshops’ creative participants.

More than 200 Gauteng based creatives were part of this life changing, career readiness and hands on structured bootcamp and workshops for almost a week.
