Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi condemned a violent attack on Gauteng Traffic Wardens during a routine patrol in Daveyton, Ekurhuleni, on Sunday morning, September 7, 2025. The wardens were fired upon with high-calibre weapons, including an AK-47 and a pistol, while attempting to search a group of about twelve individuals at Daveyton Railway Station.
Five wardens (two women, three men) were injured and are receiving medical treatment. SAPS in Daveyton opened an attempted murder case, and investigations are ongoing.
Lesufi praised the wardens’ bravery, emphasized that violence against officers is unacceptable, and vowed to work with law enforcement to apprehend the perpetrators. He plans to visit the injured wardens at Daveyton Main Clinic on September 8, 2025, to offer support.
