Macelba Calls for Continued Corporate Support to Local Artists

One of Malawi’s renowned musicians, Macelba—real name Smart Banda—has called on companies to continue supporting local artists, especially when they are accessible and making an impact.

Macelba made the remarks in Lilongwe during an event where he received a K7 million sponsorship from Shamboko Beverages, a company known for producing alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks.

The funds are meant to support a music event Macelba has organized, scheduled for July 26 this year. Part of the sponsorship will also go toward purchasing event tickets.

Shamboko Beverages’ Head of Sales and Marketing, Gracious Mwandwanga, encouraged both individuals and companies to cultivate a spirit of support and generosity without waiting for external intervention.

The upcoming music event will also feature performances from artists such as South Africa’s Eemoh, as well as local acts Janta and Kell Kay.
