Charred remains of two Ghanaian ministers and six others who perished in the military K9 helicopter crash were removed from the scene in sacks

Defence Minister Edward Omane Boamah and Environment Minister Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed were among eight victims of the crash in the southern Ashanti region of the country on Wednesday, August 6.

The Ghanaian military said the helicopter took off in the morning from the capital, Accra, and was heading northwest into the interior toward the gold-mining area of Obuasi in the Ashanti region when it went off the radar. The wreckage was later found in the Adansi area of Ashanti.

Also among the victims were Alhaji Mohammad Muniru Limuna, deputy national security coordinator and former minister of agriculture, and Samuel Sarpong, vice chairman of Mahama’s National Democratic Congress (NDC) party.

The cause of the crash was not immediately known, and the military said an investigation was underway.

Apology does not replace the Constitution, and this is what the law says
Preventing a plane from flying in Nigeria could constitute a criminal offence, such as obstruction of aircraft movement or endangering aviation safety, potentially leading to imprisonment and/or fines under the Civil Aviation Act 2006, or more severe charges like acts of terrorism if the act is deemed to be a threat. The specific offense and its penalties depend on the nature of the obstruction and the intent of the person.
Potential Offences
• Obstruction of Aircraft Movement:
Section 13 of the Civil Aviation Act 2006 may apply, criminalizing any act that obstructs or endangers an aircraft.
• Endangering Aviation Safety:
The act could also fall under provisions for dangerous flying, which is an offense that can result in imprisonment of not less than two years, or a fine of not less than #1 Million Naira, or both.
• Terrorism:
If the obstruction is intended to cause fear, harm, or disruption to the public or a section of the public, or to affect the government's exercise of its public authority, it could be classified as a terrorist act under various acts, leading to severe penalties.
