Advice to budding Artists I wish I knew when I started out:

1. Music industry is about relationships. Who you knows matters more than the music you release and your talent. Hip Hop for example is one big circle in Joburg. Everyone knows everyone and they sleep on each other’s couches. They drink together and hang out with the industry doorkeepers.

2. That’s why there’s no Hip Hop industry in any province. The talent is there but the key holders are in Joburg and they’re not about to open for some stranger guy from Limpopo, Northwest or Freestate.

3. Example is how certain artists have dropped since leaving certain record labels despite their talent. If the artist leaves on bad terms they c**k block them everywhere. You’ll never hear them on radio.

4. Now this is difficult because how does everyone go and move to joburg? I don’t care but if you’re a hip hop artist or producer you better move there and start giving major guys free beats. Hang out with them. Create a trojan horse and hang out as a graphic designer, videographer or something they can use and later use the relationship to introduce your music.

5. Big Xhosa did everything right regarding guerella marketing and hacking the internet distribution model. But he still never made it on radio monitor. It’s either the label plugs you or you invest in relationships. Yes, spending 100 nights making music is nice but that’s just 5% of the work. 95% is social capital.

TEN LESSONS FROM HAPPY SEXY MILLIONAIRE BY STEVEN BARTLETT

1. Happiness comes from within

Give up the idea that something must happen before you can become happy, because happiness comes from your heart, not your achievements.

2. The only worthwhile comparison is you yesterday versus you today

You are by any logical definition unique, so any comparison is inherently and logically unfair. If you want to live a fulfilled life, forget about others and work on yourself.

3. More money won’t make you happier

Our most basic worries will come from the need for physical survival. Once a certain level of that is fulfilled, the next level up is what motivates us, and so on and so on. This is why money doesn’t scale satisfaction after a certain point

4. Happiness lies not in seeking more but in enjoying less

If you keep having everything you want, you’ll only want more. Nothing will ever make you satisfied. Not having everything you want is part of what makes what you have so special.

5. Your sand timer is real

Your time is limited, spend it wisely doing what you should be doing, not wasting it living someone else’s life.

6. Focus on your intrinsic ambitions

Intrinsic motivation drives you to keep to your real self. It makes you engage in activity only because you enjoy it and get personal satisfaction from it. Intrinsic ambitions will ensure that you’re ultimately happy in life.

7. There is no self-development without self-awareness

You can read as many books as you like, but if you can’t read yourself, you’ll never learn a thing.

8. Become the best in your field by stacking complementary skills

To become the best in your industry, you don’t need to become the best at any one aspect, you only need to be very good at a variety of complementary skills. Skills that your industry requires for personal success.

9. Five things people regret later in life

Allowing your potential to remain trapped behind strangers’ opinions
Spending more time living in the past than in the present
Time spent with people that don’t want the best for you
Neglecting family
Never taking risks

10) Embrace uncertainty

For those who have the courage to choose uncertainty over the certain misery of a current situation, bad choices in your past become nothing more than a mistake that served to help you make good decisions in the future.

8 Most Powerful Take-Away Lessons From "Ego is the Enemy"

1. Pride finds expression in talking, humility finds expression in listening.
Ego encourages you to lift yourself and base your worth on nothing or false worth.
On the other hand, humility tells you how important it is to listen to people.

2. Manage your pride
"Your ego is not some power you’re forced to satiate at every turn. It can be managed. It can be directed."
As soon as you feel you are becoming egoistic, boastful, and proud – you can tell yourself to stop.

3. Your worst enemy resides within you.
"Wherever you are, whatever you’re doing, your worst enemy already lives inside you: your ego."
Since pride is in us, it is either we feed it or starve it.
How you deal with your pride makes the big difference.

4. Don’t be afraid to take the low position.
Ego drives you to make certain decisions just to massageit, causing a lot of problems along the line.
Do what other people refuse to do simply because they think they are too important to do it themselves.

5. Help people become great.
Ego focuses on self.
Humility focuses on others.
If you want to become great, you need to help other people become great.
That’s just how the universal law works.

6. Become a student
Ego tells you not to listen to anyone.
As a result, you stop learning.
When you become a student, you lay aside your pride.
You admit to yourself that you don’t know everything.
So, if you want to keep on learning, learn to be humble first.

7. Ego sways us from our ultimate goal.
"We’re never happy with what we have, we want what others have too.
We start out knowing what is important to us, but once we’ve achieved it, we lose sight of our priorities.
Ego sways us, & can ruin us."

8. Ego is the wicked sister of success & failure
When you succeed, don’t give in to the temptation of feeling important.
Don’t think that you are better than others just because you have succeeded.
When you fail, don’t feel like you have been cheated or u have been sabotaged.

Here are some things you should do to truly live your life:

1. Do the things that will make you happy. No matter how big or small it’s effect on your life will be, for as long as you’ll be happy without aggravating anyone, do it.

2. Take chances and don’t be afraid to take some risks. You will never enjoy your life if you’re always hiding behind your fears. If you want to do something, as I have read somewhere, “You have to want it more than you fear it.” Taking chances means trying things regardless of its outcome because the real essence is in the process. You may not win on your first try, but the lessons you’ve learned while trying, will help you build a stronger version of yourself.

3. Get ready to be judged, but most especially, be your own judge. You should know that not everyone around you will like your real identity. Some will love you while you’re not surpassing them, but when you do, they’ll always make a plan to bring you down. Others will hate from the very beginning up to the very end. Some hate you from the start, but as the time goes by, as you unleash your real self, they’ll see the goodness that resides within you. Of course, there are those people who remain true to you and ready to support you in your whole journey. Focus on them—the people who see the goodness in you. I know that you can judge on your own as to who they are.

4. Distance yourself from all the toxicity in this world. You shouldn’t be living your life being stressed on the bad things that are happening around you, it’s not yours to carry all alone. Do not spend your whole life trying to reorganize yourself as to how toxic people want you to be, you’re just wasting your time.

5. Enjoy and celebrate even the little achievement that you’ve accomplished. Treat yourself on a movie, eat your favorite foods, buy that thing you’ve been wanting to have, or travel to places you’ve wanted to visit. Celebrating your success boosts the happiness that’s waiting to happen in your life. The key to be successful is to be genuinely happy.

5 Lessons I Learned From The Book ‘As a Man Thinketh’

1) You Become What You Think

You are what you are right now because of the thoughts you once had or have. If you want to change yourself, you should first start with changing your thoughts. All the actions of man arise from the hidden seeds of thoughts.

Just with the right choice and application of thought, man can ascend to divine perfection; while with wrong choice and application of thought, he can rise below the level of the beast.

Good thoughts and results can never produce bad results; bad thoughts and actions can never produce good results.

2)Your Mind is Like a Garden

The author creates an analogy of our mind with the garden. We either choose to cultivate our mind wisely or let it run wild. If we don’t plant the seeds of beautiful flowers in our garden, the garden will itself produce some useless weeds.

Just as the gardener weeds out all unnecessary plants it is the responsibility of every individual to plant the right seeds, nurture them, and at the same time put out all the weeds. When we do this, our life becomes beautiful. But if we do the exact opposite and feed the weeds, our life becomes a mess.

3) Thoughts Not Just Affect Mentally, But Also Physically
How and what we think has a significant impact not just on the mental level but also physical level. The body is the servant of mind and it obeys the order of mind be it deliberately chosen or automatically expressed.

The author argues that the people who live in constant fear of disease are the ones who actually get it. Therefore being healthy is not just about the body, it’s also more about the mind.

Change of diet will not help a man who will not change his thoughts.

Thoughts also affect how we age. If we just pause for a second and observe the people around us, we can see people in their nineties with bright smiling faces. But we also can see the people who are just in their mid-thirties whose face is drawn into unharmonious contours. Mr Pawan

4)You Are Not Shaped by Your Circumstances

If you believe you can’t get something just because you came from a different background or because your environment doesn’t support you, you are wrong my friend. You are not shaped by the circumstances rather the outer world of circumstances shapes itself into the inner world of your thoughts.

No matter what the circumstances are, you always have the freedom to choose how to respond. And the best response is always to choose to focus on the areas you have control of. When you focus on what you have control over and improve that way, you win in life.

Men are anxious to improve their circumstances, but are unwilling to improve themselves; they, therefore, remain bound.

5)Actions And Thoughts Must Go Together

The knowledge preached by some of the self-help gurus about thoughts is that you will achieve whatever you think if you just believe it. This is also represented as a law of attraction and the idea is sold to many people.

James Allen, who is also considered as the pioneer of the self-help movement was clear that just having thoughts are not enough. Thoughts are just the starting point. And if we don’t harmonize our thoughts with the right actions, we will never accomplish what we are set to.

Just wishing for things and waiting for them to come to you will not help you in any way. You must go out, take action and earn it, whatever it is you want.
