MEMBERS ANNOUNCEMENT | PLEASE PARTICIPATE
This Women’s Month, QW+ is asking us to step up and help shift whose voices shape the news in South Africa.

They’ve launched – a campaign to crowdsource 100 new expert voices for their media database. These are women and gender-diverse individuals with lived experience, academic knowledge, or professional insight who should be part of the national conversation.

As AIP Members, you understand the importance of representation in the media. Now’s the time to take action:

🔹 *Nominate a woman or underrepresented voice – it only takes a minute:

🔹 Share the link with someone else in your circle who’ll also nominate.

Let’s use this moment to push for more diverse, local, and authentic voices in our newsrooms and content. Join us in supporting this powerful initiative.

Thank you for your continued commitment to inclusive media.

EVENT | Media Monitoring Africa (MMA) along with partners, cordially invites you to attend the Fighting Climate Dis-information: Information Integrity for Climate Change and the role of African Media event.

As the impacts of climate change intensify, so too does the spread of climate dis-information, threatening public understanding, undermining climate action, and deepening inequalities. African media face growing challenges in navigating and countering dis-information campaigns, many of which are amplified by artificial intelligence (AI) and digital platforms. The climate crisis is as much an information crisis as it is an environmental one. Mis- and dis-information around climate change threaten to erode trust in science, weaken public support for policy action, and derail urgent efforts to mitigate and adapt to climate impacts.

Date: 24 July 2025
Time: 9:00am - 1:00pm
Venue: Goethe Institut (119 Jan Smuts Avenue, Parkwood, Johannesburg, 2193) and Online (Hybrid)
RSVP: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdBpWPxNkzVOkdTemdA4_mIB-k2Rmzxa2Y0-elEu_tyuRfhGw/viewform

This hybrid event will explore how African journalists, fact-checkers, the general public, and media practitioners can defend information integrity while advancing truthful, justice-driven climate narratives. The programme will include a a public dialogue featuring leading African media voices, international experts, and representatives from FID and IPI, followed by a closed background media briefing for journalists. This event also forms part of the M20’s broader efforts to ensure Global South perspectives shape the G20 agenda on digital governance, media freedom, and climate justice.
