Shoutout to our MTF Alumni recognised at the Malawi Film Awards and GALA! 🎬✨👏​

Pa Mango Lodge took home Best TV Series 2025 (Jury Category), a huge win for Malawian storytelling and the talented creatives behind it.

We’re also proud of MTF alumna Faith Msole, whose short film The Scare was nominated for Viewer’s Choice Award! Being recognised on this stage is a major achievement and shows the incredible talent coming through our programme.​

Congrats to all the winners, nominees, and creatives who made this celebration of Malawian storytelling unforgettable. We’re proud to support local stories and the next generation of filmmakers through initiatives like MultiChoice Talent Factory. ​

Our very own Boakye D. Alpha from 2023 has been selected as one of ten Fellows for the Escalator New Writing Fellowships 2025/26, awarded by the National Centre for Writing (). He has also been named a Reeves Award Fellow, a programme dedicated to elevating Afro-Caribbean and Black British voices in UK publishing.​
​
Over the next eight months, Boakye will receive mentoring from acclaimed writers, industry insights, workshops, and a showcase to top publishers, all designed to elevate his voice and support his book-in-progress.​

We’re incredibly proud of this milestone and excited to witness the growth of his writing journey.​

Wrapping up our intros with the one and only Zethembe Mthembu! 👏

Straight from KZN’s lower South Coast, this guy doesn’t just shoot, he turns everyday moments into “wait… why does this look like a movie?” energy. A certified gadget lover and camera whisperer, he’s basically powered by lenses and good lighting.
melanin.king is so committed to the craft, he’d take a camera to a deserted island. His other essentials? Water and something warm, because the man does NOT vibe with the cold.🥶

Precise, passionate, and proudly tech-nerdy, he’s the cinematographer you call when you want your story to look cinematic… and also a little iconic.

Aside from developing world-class producers and directors, MTF is out here raising voices that shake the industry!👏🎬 ​

Our very own MTF alum Star Mphahlele took the global stage as a G20 panelist for ‘Voices from the Creative Sector’. Being at a world leaders gathering like the is a monumental achievement for an MTF alumnus, highlighting the significant role our talent plays on the global economic stage. The panel dived into how we can sustain creativity and shut down piracy across all creative industries. ​

From fashion to film, music to design, the discussion was all about protecting the work that powers South African culture. Because creativity deserves credit, coins, and protection. ​

With voices from MAXHOSA, WIPO, DALRO and more, the room was packed with creative power, and an MTF South Africa voice was right there among them.​

To close off our series, Sluphiwe Mfihlo from the class of 2025/2026, shares his perspective on why television matters, not just as entertainment, but as a space where cultures connect and stories are told that remind us who we are. Through the MultiChoice Talent Factory, .kumkanii’s learned the power of using TV to shape narratives, spark conversations, and bring African creativity to life in ways that stay with audiences long after the TV fades to black. ​
