Government is set to launch a R500 million spaza shop support fund in the next two weeks to boost local small businesses in the townships. Minister for the Department of Small Business Development Stella Ndabeni-Abrahams announced on Sunday with the closure of more than 500 shops after the deadline for registration of spaza shops and food handling outlets.

Director at the Commission on Restitution of Land Rights is set to appear in the East London Magistrate’s Court for allegedly diverting funds from the institution. Minister Thoko Didiza settled nearly 1500 of the 80 000 land claims since 1993 of South Africa's land restitution programme, an indigenous struggle. At least R58-billion has been spent on settlements to date.

President Cyril Ramaphosa signs the Basic Eucation Laws Amendment (BELA) Bill into law today, Friday, despite parliament opposition risk objections. The DA and nine smaller parties agreed to establish a GNU with the ANC. The DA opposed the BELA Bill for it's constitutional implications and the right to mother-tongue education,
amongst other concerns.

President Cyril Ramaphosa agreed to sign the National Health Insurance (NHI) Bill into law on Wednesday. On the 2024 State of the Nation Address (Sona), Ramaphosa mentioned that the Bill arrived in his office, that: “I am still looking for a pen” to sign. The Presidency confirmed the joke on Monday that Ramaphosa found the pen he was looking for to authorise the Bill.
