I realised today how automatic work has become for me.

A few free hours? Pack the laptop. Find somewhere quiet. Keep going.

But that is exactly why I’m trying to build differently.

I don’t want every available hour to automatically belong to work.

Today, the CEO gave the freelancer the morning off.

They’re already showing you that the problem is real — and that your skill has value.

The bigger question is whether that skill could create value in more than one way.

The danger is not always freelancing itself.

Sometimes the danger is waiting too long to build your next option.

When client work is still coming in, it is easy to think there is still time.
That is exactly what happened to me.

I saw warning signs long before I seriously started building something alongside freelancing.

That is why I believe the best time to build another income stream is while your current one is still working.

Freelancing has a hidden cost people rarely count:

the unpaid hours it takes to win the work.

Searching.
Applying.
Writing proposals.
Interviewing.
Following up.

And sometimes you do all of that and still don’t get the job.

That is why I think we need to talk more honestly about what freelance income really costs.
