Truck Carrying Maize Meal Looted After Fire in Geysdorp

A truck transporting maize meal was reportedly looted by members of the community after it caught fire in Geysdorp, near Delareyville in the North West, yesterday.

According to information available at this stage, members of the public rushed to the scene and helped themselves to the truck’s cargo. Allegations have also surfaced that traffic officers were among those seen taking part in the looting. These claims have not been independently verified.

The circumstances surrounding the fire, as well as the alleged involvement of traffic officers, remain unclear. Authorities are expected to investigate the incident.

WARNING: Suspected Pickpocket Syndicate Caught on Camera

A disturbing CCTV video circulating on social media appears to show a group of suspected pickpockets targeting an elderly woman inside a retail store. Please note that this incident did not occur in Rustenburg, and the information currently available to us is limited.

Based on the footage, a man appears to discreetly open the woman’s handbag before seemingly signalling to his accomplices. Moments later, several women surround the victim, pretending to browse vegetables while creating a distraction. During the confusion, another woman approaches from behind and appears to reach into the victim’s handbag in an apparent attempt to steal her belongings.

The footage suggests the group operates in a coordinated manner, using distraction techniques and crowding the victim to create an opportunity for theft.

The elderly woman appears to realise what is happening and begins calling for help. As she tries to alert those around her, she is allegedly surrounded by the group, and one of the suspects reportedly strikes her with a shopping basket, causing her to fall. Despite this, she continues shouting until store staff and security respond. By the time assistance arrives, the suspects have already fled the scene.

If you recognise any of the individuals shown in the footage or have information that could assist law enforcement, please report it to your nearest police station. For your own safety, do not attempt to confront anyone you suspect may be involved.

This video serves as an important reminder to remain alert while shopping, keep handbags securely closed and within sight, and look out for elderly shoppers and other vulnerable members of our communities.
