Rustenburg shines brighter together
Platinum Weekly newspaper | Rustenburg — This year’s Silwerrand Schools Light Festival didn’t just glow… it blazed with community spirit, joy, and heart. Over five dazzling nights, from 2 to 6 December 2025, thousands stepped into a wonder-world of colour, characters and Christmas cheer — all for a cause that will leave a lasting impact far beyond the festival grounds.
The event burst to life on opening night as families wandered through glowing tunnels, paused for photo ops with storybook royalty, and warmed their hands (and hearts) beside crackling bonfires. “The atmosphere was absolutely magical!” shared festival-goer Madith Sebatana, attending with her granddaughter Barbara van Rooyen. “Events like these truly bring our community together.”
And that spirit of togetherness became the festival’s greatest triumph.
Silwerrand Schools’ school director Charlene Schoeman reflected on the week with gratitude: “It was a massive success. I am very grateful that we could help the children’s home. They let me know that they will be able to get through December 2025 now with enough food. We lost a bit on the first night because of the rain but all in all, it was really fabulous to see the entire Rustenburg community together.” She added a heartfelt message: “Thank you, Rustenburg, for supporting us.”
The festival’s unique entry fee — R20 plus a non-perishable food item — transformed a joyful outing into meaningful charity. Every can, packet and donation contributed directly to Rustenburg Child and Family Welfare.
Along with its purpose, the Light Festival dazzled with creativity: glowing fairy-tale figures, LED-covered vehicles, massive, illuminated structures, and carefully crafted scenes brought an extra sparkle to the Silwerrand Schools grounds. Teachers spent weeks preparing, and their dedication shone through every magical detail.
This year, Rustenburg didn’t just attend a festival. It built one glowing, generous, unforgettable moment — together.
