CANDLELIGHT TO BE HELD IN MEMORY OF Aobakwe Thomas Mangena
Lerome community is set to gather in sorrow and remembrance for Aobakwe Thomas Mangena, who tragically lost his life after a brutal assault last Saturday morning. A candlelight vigil will be held today at 10:00 at Lerome Hall, next to Mokhine Primary School.
According to police reports, Mangena was allegedly attacked with an unknown object at Thabeng Section in Lerome Village and later taken to Mogwase Health Centre, where he was certified dead on Saturday, 25 October 2025.
Speaking to Sechaba Times, Brigadier Sabata Mokgwaabone, the SAPS spokesperson for the North West Province, confirmed that the Mogwase Police have opened a case of murder and investigations are underway.
“Contrary to reports suggesting that the victim was attacked by community members, preliminary investigations reveal that he was assaulted by a yet-to-be-identified individual,” Brigadier Mokgwaabone said.
He further urged anyone with information that could assist the investigation to come forward and contact Detective Captain Lefty Motswadi on 082 426 2223.
