2023 SWITCH-ON Announcement!
Dunbar Christmas Lights is delighted to present you with the itinerary for the hugely popular switch-on event, which will take place on Sunday 26th November, from 2pm - 6:30pm.
Come along to join us for a magical day, with live bands, DJ, ceilidh dancing & dance displays, craft stalls and children’s rides.

Santa is at The Sweetie Bank, Dunbar High St., from 13:30 - 17:30
Visit Father Christmas at Santa’s Grotto where every child will receive a parcel. Kids can also take away some special reindeer food that Santa will bring from the North Pole and a North Pole post box for any Christmas lists or messages. Safety
A reminder to ask all visitors to act responsibly to ensure you remain safe and well. It is an ELC condition of license that ALL dogs are kept on a leash during the event.

After a spell of rough seas the strandlines on our beaches will often be smattered with lots of interesting finds. These ‘Sea potatoes’ caught one of our eye on Gullane beach. More formally known as Heart Urchins, what we tend to find washed up on the beach are their very fragile heart-shaped shells or ‘tests’ as they are known. The Heart Urchin is a burrowing species of sea urchin that frequents sandy shores. If you spot one while it is still alive it will be covered in backward pointing beige coloured spines which gives it an almost furry appearance, cute!

The genus name of cudweed, Filago, comes from the Latin filium meaning thread, referring to the plants hairy covering. Farmers used to believe that it was beneficial to cattle that had stopped ruminating, or had ‘lost their cud’, hence the common name.
