Meet Andrew, founder and product strategist at Refresh Studio. With almost a decade of experience, he has spent his career building and reshaping products across a range of industries and brands. His approach is grounded in a single idea: that good strategy is the difference between a product that works and one that matters.

He leads Refresh with a focus on craft, clarity and the long view. For Andrew, the work is never just about what gets shipped. It is about why it exists, who it serves and whether it holds up over time. That thinking shapes how the studio operates and what it chooses to take on.

“The evolution of Refresh is an elevation. We’re expanding on our existing ethos to bring culture, collaboration and innovative design, front and centre to everything we do. We want to see Refresh transform from a digital product design studio into a cultural brand. A company people want to work with and learn from. A zeitgeist, even simply within our industry microclimate.” Andrew Kay

From Airbnb to Standard Bank, no project is too small. The mandate is always the same: to deliver value, at the highest level, always.

Seriti is a film studio whose work was already sharper than its brand. Bold, rebellious, unapologetically original on screen. Quiet and generic everywhere else.
Going into a new phase, pitching for premium commercial work, that gap was doing real damage. The brand was the thing in the room before the showreel played, and it wasn’t earning the next two minutes of attention.
We rebuilt it end to end. Identity, design system, brand guidelines, website, applied collateral.
The whole thing is anchored in the 16:9 frame. It is the unit Seriti’s work is made in, and we made it the unit the brand is built from. Once the frame was fixed, every other decision had a place to sit. A cinematic colour palette drawn from the tonal range Seriti shoots in. Typography that holds its weight at poster scale and at body copy. A logo that reads as a mark, not a wordmark dressed up.
The website was where the tension was sharpest. Cinematic systems tend to collapse when they meet a CMS. Functional ones tend to flatten what made the studio distinctive. We held both by treating the frame as a layout principle, not a decoration.
The result is a brand that holds attention without asking for it.

The Refresh team had the privilege of attending .

We had the opportunity to explore the technology shaping the future of Africa’s ecosystem, understand what investor readiness looks like and hear the stories and ambitions of the continent’s next generation of founders.

As a studio that blends design and technology, we were honoured to be part of this event and remain committed to supporting Africa’s founders with products that are clear, thoughtful and built to scale.

We captured some of the energy and conversations from the day, offering a glimpse into the people and ideas building Africa’s future.

Thank you for having us, Africa Tech Festival. See you next year.
