On the 1st May 2014 Gareth Cliff shocked the airwaves by leaving 5FM and launching CliffCentral.com to pioneer podcasting along with radio stalwart Rina Broomberg, with their company One on One Productions. At that time the word "podcast" was barely understood in South Africa. Fast forward to today - not only is podcasting a mainstream medium but it’s an essential part of how South Africans consume content.
So ahead of CliffCentral’s 10th birthday last year, the team made a bold pivot that marked the next phase of growth. Gareth Cliff left the mothership to join ad agency Rapt and launch The Real Network. Rina Broomberg continued with the founding company One on One Productions and got the party started - Podcast Party - committed to inspiring positive change and amplifying diverse voices through the power of conversations.
Today – 1st May 2025 – as we celebrate One on One’s 20th birthday and 11 years since the launch of CliffCentral, we look back proudly on a pioneering journey that changed the media landscape in South Africa. From building one of the country’s first podcast networks to mentoring talent and pushing the boundaries of what online media can be, One on One Productions remains committed to innovation and independent content through Podcast Party’s online platforms.
