We are often associated with remote locations and vast landscapes where we harvest stories of communities, land and our flora and fauna. While those spaces feel like home to us, our storytelling is not defined by location.

Sometimes, our most intimate and powerful stories unfold in a carefully lit studio interview setup, or a simple white room where an idea or lived experience takes center stage.

Whether we are producing documentary films in the field, or creating interview-driven corporate communications, our approach remains the same: thoughtful and ethical storytelling combined with technical excellence.

Different spaces. Varying formats. The same passion for stories with purpose.

Behind every great story is a powerful partnership.

At Sugar Bean Pictures, the heart of our work lies in the dynamic mother-daughter duo who lead the vision. Ntokozo Mbuli brings a fresh, creative storytelling lens, while Nomsa Mbuli contributes decades of experience in the educational sector, creating a unique synergy where innovation meets wisdom.

Together, they have cultivated an impact-driven institution dedicated to producing entertainment with purpose that contributes meaningfully to society... Because storytelling is at its most powerful when it leaves a lasting impact.

As our crew calls a wrap on imigidi and the celebration tents come down, folding away an amazing season of colour, rhythm, and communal joy, we carry with us a profound gratitude for the families and traditional leaders who trusted us with their stories during the sacred journey of ulwaluko.

What remains is not just what was witnessed, but what was honoured. And as the songs fade and the ground falls quiet again, the careful and important work of shaping these stories, with truth, humility, and authenticity, is only just beginning.

Time to go back to headquarters.

New year. New Chapters. Same commitment to powerful storytelling. 2026 is calling us deeper into African stories rooted in heart and purpose, reaching beyond the continent.

For the landscapes that inspire us, the people who trust us and the stories that ask to be told - we are so grateful.

While the Eastern Cape is rich with breathtaking landscapes, it is the aerial storytelling of our "cameraman in the sky", Shaq, that elevates the viewer’s experience.

His skill goes beyond merely capturing images from above. He shapes the story through motion and perspective. His camera becomes a quiet narrator that introduces the world of each story - carrying the story forward with purpose.

Then the bonus: Shaq's personal connection to the Eastern Cape adds a tenderness and truth to every aerial journey in this province.

The was our home away from home over the years when we were falling hopelessly in love with filming in the Eastern Cape. From early call times to late-night wrap chats... Packed lunches and last-minute room service... They always welcomed us with warmth, care, and unwavering support.

Now that Sugar Bean Pictures HQ is proudly based in Nelson Mandela Bay, we may not pass through the Paxton doors as often anymore, but they’ll always be part of our story. Thank you to their incredible team for making every stay feel like family. 💛

In our journey as storytellers of the natural world, it is important that we know and understand the ecosystems of the spaces we work in as we document how species interact. This is to ensure that what we produce is accurate, ethical and of course, impactful.

While wildlife filmmaking has had a profoundly positive impact on conservation education, with more and more African perspectives coming to the fore, the welfare of the wildlife is something we always prioritise.

We take pride in our "people and planet" narratives and we are emboldened by our commitment to sharing with the world, the relationship Africans have had with nature since the beginning.
