To celebrate Women’s Day, we took to the streets of Johannesburg and asked local women a few simple questions about womanhood, strength and what this day means to them.

Their answers were honest, heartfelt, inspiring and a beautiful reminder that while every woman’s journey is different, there’s so much that connects us.

“There isn’t one way to be a woman, and that’s exactly what makes every story worth hearing.”

Watch the reel, then tell us: What is one piece of advice or encouragement you would share with another woman today? We would love to read your answers below!

WOMEN OF JOZI: CHANGE MAKERS OF THE CITY

Founder of Hunger Has No Religion, Nuraan Esack Gain, operates a food business in Jozi's communities hardest hit by gangsterism, Coronationville and Westbury.

With the support of volunteers, local businesses, and community members, Nuraan prepares and distributes meals to people across the area, close to where the conflict is happening and where many would be reluctant to venture.

"For Women’s Month, Nuraan represents a form of leadership that is rarely given enough attention. Her work involves cooking, fundraising, coordinating volunteers and supporting families after shootings. It also means entering dangerous areas at precisely the moment most people are trying to leave them."
