The iPhone has come a long way in South Africa and so has the price tag.

When the iPhone 3G officially launched here in 2008, it started at R6,389. By 2025, the iPhone 17 was selling from R20,799. Now, the latest generation has taken the number even further, with the iPhone 18 coming in at R33,250.
That’s more than R26,000 above the price of the first iPhone officially sold in South Africa.

Of course, comparing launch prices across 18 years isn’t as simple as looking at the numbers. Exchange rates, inflation, storage, technology and Apple’s pricing strategy have all played a role, but one thing is clear: the iPhone price story in South Africa has changed dramatically.

Would you still pay R33,250 for the latest iPhone?

For Heritage Month, Takealot is giving its name a proudly South African twist.

For the first time in 15 years, the brand is changing how its name appears on its delivery boxes, translating “Takealot” into South Africa’s 12 official languages. Think Vatbaie, Tsayagolegontsi and Thath’okuningi.

It’s more than a name change. It’s a clever localisation strategy that takes one of the brand’s most recognisable touchpoints and uses it to celebrate South Africa’s linguistic and cultural diversity.

Because sometimes, the strongest way to connect with your audience is to speak their language.

What would you call Takealot in your language? 👀

50 years after the youth of 1976 stood up and left a legacy of courage, resistance and action, we asked today’s youth a simple but powerful question: What do you think our youth’s legacy is going to be?

For Sphokuhle, founder of scrumptiouslips . and winner of the 2026 Top Hair & Beauty Brand award, the answer is clear: today’s youth are outspoken, unapologetic and willing to act on what they believe in. A generation that refuses to settle for what no longer serves them and isn’t afraid to say it as it is.

As we celebrate 50 years since 1976, the question remains: what will we leave behind for the generation that comes after us?

This Heritage Month, we’re bringing back the ads from South African heritage brands that gave us more than just products, they gave us moments we remember. 🇿🇦❤️

This week, we’re throwing it back to a Bakers classic where a mother’s kiss becomes the little boy’s special ingredient (love) which he carries all the way to the Bakers factory.
And if you remember the song, you already know how it ends: “He mixes it with love, he makes the world taste good.”

Some ads really knew how to make us feel something. 🥹
Do you remember this Bakers ad?

This time last week, we were celebrating the young brands shaping the future.

For PasswordKid , being part of the Top 16 Youth-Owned Brands Awards is about more than recognition, it’s about being part of a community of young founders who refuse to give up and are building solutions to the challenges facing their communities.

Different industries, Different ideas, Different journeys but One shared determination to keep building.

One week later, we’re still celebrating the power of youth-owned brands. ✨

DJ Zinhle is stepping into a new collaboration with Crocs, bringing together her signature style, personality and influence with a brand that has turned comfort into a cultural statement.

For Crocs, collaborations are about more than putting a name on a product. They are about tapping into the communities, personalities and creative worlds that shape how people express themselves and DJ Zinhle is a natural fit.

A collaboration where comfort meets culture, and personal style takes centre stage.

The iPhone launch is changing. For the first time since 2019, Apple is reportedly preparing to break up its traditional iPhone launch cycle.

The iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max are expected to launch this week, alongside Apple’s first foldable iPhone, while the standard iPhone 18 could arrive in early 2027.

It’s more than a product launch change, it could signal a new way for Apple to build anticipation, sustain conversation and create multiple commercial moments throughout the year.

What do you think: smart strategy or a break from what made the iPhone launch so iconic?
