Sassa spokesperson Paseka Letsatsi said that beneficiaries who fail to comply with the review process risk having their grants suspended or permanently cancelled. Additionally, fraud investigations may be opened against those found to be in non-compliance.

The agency has amended its payment schedule for beneficiaries who have been requested to come in for a review. Those who fail to contact Sassa after two months may have their grants suspended, and if they still qualify, they will need to approach Sassa within a month to reinstate their grant.

Letsatsi emphasized that Sassa has a legislative obligation to ensure that grants are allocated to those who meet the means test. Beneficiaries are required to keep their contact details up to date, and failure to respond to notifications may result in corrective action.

This move is part of Sassa's efforts to ensure that its resources are targeted towards those who need them most. By rooting out fraud and ensuring compliance, Sassa can better support vulnerable individuals and families in South Africa
