KINROSS POLICE AND GMM LAW ENFORCEMENT CONDUCT COMPLIANCE INSPECTION

Kinross SAPS, together with Govan Mbeki Municipality (GMM) Law Enforcement, Leslie Fire Department, the Kinross Community Policing Forum (CPF) and community members, conducted a compliance inspection at several businesses in and around Kinross Town.

The operation was led by Sergeant Mazibuko of Kinross SAPS and was aimed at ensuring that businesses comply with relevant municipal bylaws, safety regulations and other legal requirements.

During the inspection, officials assessed businesses to determine whether they were operating in accordance with the applicable laws and regulations.

One of the scrap yards was found to be non-compliant during the inspection. Authorities ordered the business to cease operations until the necessary requirements have been met and compliance has been achieved.

The inspection forms part of ongoing efforts by law enforcement authorities and community structures to promote compliance, public safety and responsible business operations.

GMM INDIGENT REGISTRATION AND SANITARY TOWELS DISTRIBUTION PROGRAMME IN EMBALENHLE

Govan Mbeki Municipality, through the Office of the Speaker of Council, Cllr Fikile Magagamela, invites residents from Ward 11 in eMbalenhle to participate in the Indigent Registration currently underway at Chicken Yakho (Estopini), White City.

Cllr Magagamela will provide information on the qualifying criteria, application process and municipal subsidies available to registered indigent households.

Sanitary towels will also be distributed during the programme.

Residents are encouraged to attend and take advantage of this initiative.

OPERATION SHANELA RESULTS IN DRUG ARREST AT EMBALENHLE

Embalenhle SAPS members conducted a comprehensive Operation Shanela and compliance operation within the Embalenhle precinct on Wednesday, 9 September 2026

The operation focused on preventing and disrupting criminal activities, enhancing police visibility, conducting compliance inspections and addressing identified crime hotspots within the community.

As part of the operation, members arrested a 37-year-old African male for possession of drugs. The suspect was found in possession of 100 Mandrax tablets, with an estimated street value of R14,000.00. The drugs were seized as exhibit.

Embalenhle Police remains committed to keep communities safe through proactive policing, high-visibility operations and partnerships with community members and other stakeholders.

Members of the public are urged to remain vigilant and to report suspicious activities, drug dealing, criminal behaviour and other safety concerns to the police. Community information plays a vital role in helping police identify and disrupt criminal networks before they can cause further harm.

Embalenhle Police further appeals to community members not to confront suspected criminals themselves. Instead, report information to the police and allow law-enforcement officials to deal with the matter safely and within the law.

Together, through active community participation and effective policing, we can prevent crime, protect our communities and create a safer environment for everyone.

It is at this juncture that the community is being made aware that all charges were withdrawn by the Evander Regional Court effective from 03 September 2026.

MANQOBA MAPHANGA APPEARS IN COURT FOR ALLEGED MURDER OF HIS FRIEND

Manqoba Maphanga (21) appeared before the Evander Regional Court on Tuesday, 08 September 2026.

Maphanga is facing a charge of murder and was arrested on 18 August 2025.

The information presented in court revealed that Maphanga and the deceased had argued on 16 December 2023 at Ext 19 in eMbalenhle, which was later resolved.

Three days later, the deceased went to the nearest spaza shop after having a meal with his mother, where he came across Maphanga and other friends.

Maphanga allegedly approached the deceased and started questioning him.

The deceased allegedly handed his phone to a friend. When he turned back to face the accused, Maphanga took out a knife and allegedly stabbed him.

He was rushed to the Paulina Morapeli Clinic at Ext 19, where he unfortunately succumbed to his injuries.

Maphanga was allegedly moved from eMbalenhle by his grandfather and kept at a traditional healer’s place in Bushbuckridge.

The matter was postponed to 14 October 2026 for the outcome of the psychiatric evaluation and further consultation with his legal representative.

He has since been remanded in custody

TRICHARDTFONTEIN AND EMDIBINI LEARNERS TOYI TOYI FOR BUSES

Learners from Emdibini and Trichardsfontein have expressed frustration over a shortage of school transport, after buses allocated to ferry them to school were unable to accommodate all the learners.

According to parents, the transport problem has been ongoing for a long time, with learners regularly being left behind because there are not enough buses to transport everyone.

Parents allege that two buses have been allocated to Emdibini, while one bus serves learners from Trichardsfontein. However, they claim that the buses can only accommodate approximately 60 learners each and are currently making only one trip.

With more than 400 learners reportedly relying on the transport service, many are left stranded and unable to get to school.

The situation was particularly concerning today, as several learners from Extension 25 were reportedly left without transport to school.

Parents are now calling for the authorities responsible for scholar transport to urgently provide additional buses to ensure that all learners can travel safely and attend school without disruption.

They say the ongoing lack of adequate transport is affecting learners' education and cannot be allowed to continue.

LESLIE POLICE SEEK COMMUNITY’S HELP TO LOCATE FAMILY OF DECEASED MAN

The police in Leslie are appealing to members of the community for assistance in locating the family of an unidentified man who was found deceased on SH De La Rey Springbok Draai Farm on 24 April 2026 at approximately 08h30.

At the time of his discovery, the man was wearing a maroon sweat jersey, navy-blue track pants and grey push-in shoes.

Police are urging anyone who may have information that could assist in identifying the deceased or locating his family to come forward.

Anyone with information is requested to contact the investigating officer, Sgt Mokoena, on 072 914 0975.

EMBALENHLE WARD 13 COMMUNITY MEMBERS QUESTION ALLEGED SAPS RESPONSE

Community members in Ward 13, eMbalenhle, have expressed frustration over what they describe as a delayed response by the South African Police Service (SAPS) after a young woman was found unresponsive at her home on Tuesday afternoon, 08 September 2026.

According to residents, the woman was noticed sitting in the same position earlier in the morning.

One of the neighbors said she initially believed that the woman was simply sitting and relaxing. However, after some time she allegedly saw the woman still in the same position.

She then alerted others and began contacting the police for assistance.

Community members claim that despite notifying police officials, there was a delay in the police response, with officers reportedly arriving at the scene at around 15h00.

The alleged delay has left residents frustrated, with some questioning the urgency with which their calls for assistance were handled.

The circumstances surrounding the woman's condition and what may have happened to her have not yet been confirmed.

Seskhona Media contacted the police for a comment on the allegations of late response.
The police dismissed allegations of late response and said they received a call at 13:45 and responded immediately.

MAN SENTENCED TO 20 YEARS FOR MURDER IN EMZINONI

The Breyten High Court has sentenced 38-year-old John Menzi Sibeko to 20 years’ direct imprisonment for murder.

Sibeko was sentenced on 20 August 2026 following a murder that occurred on 14 October 2025, at approximately 12:01, at the Afghani informal settlement in Emzinoni.

According to the information presented in court, Sibeko and the victim had an argument before he strangled her with a wire.

After the incident, Sibeko allegedly locked the victim inside the house and left the scene.

The accused later informed the deceased’s relatives about what he had done. He also wrote su***de notes in which he referred to the
incident.

Police members Sergeant JT Sihlali and Constable LJ Skhosana responded swiftly after receiving the complaint.

The investigation was conducted by Detective Constable BE Mavimbela, whose work, together with the testimony of police officials and other witnesses, contributed to the successful prosecution of the case.

Sibeko was subsequently convicted of murder and sentenced to 20 years’ direct imprisonment.

The court further declared him unfit to possess a firearm.
