🍞 𝗗𝗜𝗗 𝗬𝗢𝗨 𝗞𝗡𝗢𝗪? 🍞

After they just saw Jesus miraculously multiply bread and feed the crowds, the disciples found themselves worrying about having no bread again.

Jesus gently reminded them of what they had already witnessed: “𝗗𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱?” (Mark 8:14–21)

How easily we do the same.

God provides. We see His faithfulness. He carries us through something we thought we would never survive – and then, when the next challenge comes, we start worrying all over again.

We forget the bread He multiplied yesterday when we are staring at the empty basket today. Yesterday’s provision was never meant to be forgotten. It was meant to teach us 𝗪𝗵𝗼 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗶𝘀.

The God who was faithful before is still faithful now.
The God who made a way then can make a way again.
And the God who knows what you need tomorrow is already there.

So when fear whispers, “What are you going to do?” ... remember what He has already done. Trust Him. He has not changed. He will not change.

There is something profoundly beautiful about that little detail in John’s Gospel.

Mary stood weeping beside an empty tomb, her eyes clouded by grief. She did not recognise Jesus. She thought He was the gardener.

And now, 2 000 years later, beneath the ancient stones of Jerusalem, archaeologists have uncovered evidence of a garden 𝗲𝘅𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗹𝘆 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗝𝗼𝗵𝗻 𝘀𝗮𝗶𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝗼𝗻𝗲.

Mary thought she was looking at the gardener... She was looking at her Redeemer. ✝️

Did you know ... Peter wrote something truly astonishing: 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗹𝘀 𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗮𝗹𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗚𝗼𝗱 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝗴𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗻 𝘂𝘀. (1 Peter 1:12)

Just think about that for a moment.

The angels who behold God’s glory.
The angels who know His presence.
The angels who have witnessed the unfolding of His purposes throughout history.

𝗧𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝘂𝗽𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗮𝗹𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗴𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝘂𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘄𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿.

And yet, we can become so familiar with the miracle of grace that we forget just how extraordinary it really is.

We stumble. We wander. We fail. And still, God does not abandon us. Through Jesus, He opened the way for us to come to Him – not because we earned it, but because 𝗛𝗶𝘀 𝗹𝗼𝘃𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝗴𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘀𝗶𝗻.

What can sometimes become an everyday phrase; “Jesus saved me” – is a truth that even heaven looks upon with wonder. So never think your salvation is something small.

𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝘀𝗮𝘃𝗲𝗱 𝗯𝘆 𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗰𝗲. 𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗯𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝗖𝗵𝗿𝗶𝘀𝘁. 𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗮 𝗵𝗼𝗽𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗻𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗴𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂.

Take a moment today to stand in awe of it again.

☀️ Happy Sunday, JOY! Family! ❤️

As we pause and prepare our hearts for a new week, let’s remember that our identity is not shaped by our failures, our disappointments, or what others say about us. We are who God says we are.

𝗛𝗢𝗪 𝗧𝗢 𝗥𝗘𝗕𝗨𝗜𝗟𝗗 𝗬𝗢𝗨𝗥 𝗖𝗢𝗡𝗙𝗜𝗗𝗘𝗡𝗖𝗘

Confidence can be damaged by rejection, disappointment, failure, criticism, or simply a long season of feeling overlooked. You may begin to question your judgement, compare yourself with others, or hold back from things you once approached with courage. But what happened to you does not have the authority to define you. Your identity is not found in your worst moment, another person’s opinion, or a door that closed. It is found in Christ.

𝗥𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝘄𝗵𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗮𝗿𝗲
You are not an accident, a disappointment, or an afterthought. You were created by God and are fully known by Him. David wrote, “I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made” (Psa 139:14). God knows every part of your story, including the places where you feel weak, ashamed, or unsure. Nothing about you is hidden from Him, yet His love has not changed. “I have loved you with an everlasting love” (Jer 31:3).

𝗦𝘁𝗼𝗽 𝗹𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝗻𝗮𝗺𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂
A painful experience can quickly become a label. You failed, so you call yourself a failure. You were rejected, so you believe you are unwanted. You were criticised, so you assume you have nothing valuable to offer. These conclusions may feel true, but they are not the truth. Your confidence begins to heal when you separate what happened from who you are. You may have been wounded, but you are still God’s child. You may have made mistakes, but you are still being restored.

𝗕𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗿𝘂𝘁𝗵 𝘁𝗼 𝗚𝗼𝗱
You do not need to pretend that you are fine. God is not asking you to perform strength in His presence. He invites you to be honest. “Pour out your heart before Him; God is a refuge for us” (Psa 62:8). Tell Him what hurt you. Tell Him where you lost courage. Tell Him what you are afraid to try again. Prayer is not the place where you hide your weakness. It is where you discover that His strength is greater than it.

𝗥𝗲𝗰𝗲𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗿𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗺𝗲
Sometimes confidence is shaken because we made a poor choice. There may be something to learn, repair, or change. Ask God for wisdom, but do not punish yourself after He has forgiven you. Conviction is clear and leads you back to God. Condemnation is heavy and leaves you feeling hopeless. “There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus” (Rom 8:1). You can take responsibility without carrying shame.

𝗧𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗯𝗿𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗽
Confidence often returns after obedience begins. Do not wait until you feel completely ready. Apply for the position. Start the project. Have the conversation. Use the gift God has placed in you. When Joshua faced a task far bigger than himself, God said, “Be strong and of good courage ... for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go” (Josh 1:9). He gives wisdom, courage, grace, and strength for what He places before you. “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” (Phil 4:13).

𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝗺 𝗶𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀
You can be confident in your faith because Jesus is faithful. You can be confident in who you are because you belong to Him. You can be confident in your witness because the Holy Spirit lives within you. You are intimately known, deeply loved, and precious in God’s sight. Your life still carries purpose. Your gifts are still there. God is still working in you, and He will be faithful to complete what He has begun.

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗮𝘆 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘀𝗲𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳 - 𝗚𝗼𝗱’𝘀 𝘁𝗿𝘂𝘁𝗵, 𝗼𝗿 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗵𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂?

Rejection, failure, criticism and disappointment can leave deep marks on our confidence. But they do not get to define who we are. Our identity is found in Christ. ❤️

When Lot hesitated to leave S***m, the angels took hold of his hand and physically led him to safety (Genesis 19:16).

Lot didn’t simply need directions... he was hesitating to leave something God had commanded him to leave. Yet, in His mercy, God did not abandon him in his hesitation. He took him by the hand and led him out.

Sometimes, we struggle to let go of what God is calling us to leave behind. But even in our hesitation, His mercy reaches for us. ❤️

📍 UPDATE: This article was written earlier in Reini’s journey and appears as published in the September issue of JOY! Magazine. Since then, he has travelled further through Tanzania. As of 2 September, Reini and the team were making their way towards Igawa, Tanzania, and continuing their journey onwards.

Crosswalk Africa evangelist Reini Coetzee has reached Tanzania, the fifth country in his mission trek from Cape Town to Jerusalem. Wheeling his wooden cross from Malawi into Tanzania at the Sengwe border crossing recently was like entering a “new spiritual gate”, he said, referring to the unique spiritual atmosphere he experiences in each country.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗺 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗔𝗳𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗮
He thanked God for his time in Malawi, where he said the people lived up to their nation’s reputation as the “warm heart of Africa”. “They have a love for and fear of God.” He also marvelled at the orderly way that pastors and leaders from the Evangelical Association of Malawi and The Way of the Cross partnered with him from village to village, town to town, and region to region, all the way across Malawi. He also expressed gratitude to Louise Laubscher of Fishers, Trainers and Senders Ministries, who connected him with the men and women of God who saw to his needs and facilitated ministry opportunities throughout Malawi.

𝗔 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗵𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿
A highlight of crossing from Malawi to Tanzania was a flag ceremony when he was handed over to his Tanzanian welcoming party. He said that, in Tanzania, God is once again using somebody to “open doors” for him. Her name is Amelia Korda, and she is the daughter of veteran African missionaries. Reini said the border handover “was a prophetic act that took place between two nations – taking hands spiritually. I am trusting the Lord with every step that I take that He is uniting believers to stand firm against evil and unrighteousness, and bringing change to Africa”.

𝗦𝗮𝗹𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀, 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗱𝗲𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲𝘀
He said that, while he had seen signs along the road of the evil influence of witchcraft, he had also seen “so many salvations, healings right in front of me, and also deliverances”. He added: “And I have seen many men and women of God who are rolling up their sleeves and saying, ‘We will put our hand in the plough and just move forward to make a difference.’”

𝗔𝗳𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗮 𝗶𝘀 𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮 𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝘀𝗼𝗻𝗴
Some of his first impressions of Tanzania include “vibrant people” who are “so excited to see the cross”. During a recent opportunity to minister at a church in the Kyela district, about 1,5 km from the border post, he was struck by the people’s hunger for prayer and their passionate worship. “Time and time again, I just see in the spiritual realm that Africa is singing a new song. You know, Heaven needs our worship, and that is what they’re doing – worshipping this amazing God that we serve with everything in their being.”

𝗔 𝗺𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗵𝗼𝗽𝗲
He said: “I’m trusting that the cross will speak a message of healing, hope, and love to the nation. My prayer for Tanzania is for forgiveness and reconciliation.” Reini said that, since arriving in Tanzania, he has been dealing with paperwork regarding his time in the country and expects to resume his crosswalk shortly. “I’m not sure how everything is going to happen in Tanzania, but I don’t think it’s going to be like in Malawi. Maybe the Lord wants something else to happen here.”

𝗪𝗘 𝗡𝗘𝗘𝗗 𝗧𝗢 𝗣𝗥𝗔𝗬 𝗙𝗢𝗥 𝗢𝗨𝗥 𝗟𝗘𝗔𝗗𝗘𝗥𝗦

It’s easy to talk about our leaders. It’s easy to criticise, question and disagree with their decisions. But as followers of Jesus, we are called to do something far more powerful: 𝗽𝗿𝗮𝘆.

The Bible doesn’t tell us to pray only for leaders we like or agree with. We are called to pray for ALL who are in authority - our government, our pastors, our community leaders, our employers and anyone whose decisions impact the lives of others.

Pray for wisdom.
Pray for integrity.
Pray for protection.
Pray for salvation.
Pray that God would guide their decisions and use them for His purposes.

Our nation needs prayer. Our leaders need prayer. 𝗔𝗻𝗱 𝘄𝗲, 𝗮𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗵𝘂𝗿𝗰𝗵, 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗮 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝘁𝗼 𝗽𝗿𝗮𝘆.

So what does the Bible actually teach us about praying for those in authority... even when we strongly disagree with them?
