Why do people pray before meals?

Giving thanks before a meal is a long-standing Christian practice. It acknowledges God as the source of all provision and reminds us to express gratitude in both the small and the significant. When we say grace, our primary intention is to give thanks and to honour God as our provider. While the food itself is already good and provided by God, praying over it is a way to receive it with thanksgiving and to set it apart through prayer, as taught in Scripture (1 Tim 4:4-5).

How the Council of Nicaea changed Christianity forever

In 325 AD, over 300 bishops from across the Roman Empire gathered in the city of Nicaea (now İznik, Turkey). Convened by Emperor Constantine, this historic meeting aimed to resolve theological conflict, unify the Church, and establish a shared understanding of Christian truth. What followed was a decisive moment for Christianity: The Council of Nicaea produced the first formal statement of Christian belief – the Nicene Creed – and took a bold stand for the divinity of Christ. For Christians around the world today, the legacy of this council is foundational and enduring.

How to prepare your kids for the online world

I hear a lot of people say that parenting is harder today than it was for our parents. Maybe that’s true. At the very least, it feels more complex. Our parents only had to worry about the dangers we’d face in the real world. Although as a Gen Xer, I feel like our parents didn’t worry that much. They just sent us outside until the streetlights came on. In parenting today, we need to be concerned about both the real world and the online world.

Exciting news! Earlier this week, JOY! Magazine's General Manager and Director, Gawie De Lange and Director of JOY! Travel, Jackie De Lange, sat down with the esteemed Dr. Pearl Kupe for an interview to be featured on TBN's "Ambassador of Change"!

During the interview, Gawie and Jackie share their hearts and the incredible vision behind JOY! Magazine, and JOY! Travel.

You can find TBN on DSTV Channel 343, with "Ambassador of Change" currently airing on Mondays at 9:30 AM & 1:00 PM, and Wednesdays at 9:30 AM & 7:30 PM.

A Godly Gift for a Wedding Day

What a beautiful story of love and faith! We want to extend a huge congratulations to Lara-Anne and her husband, who recently tied the knot.

Many of you will remember our Grace & Glory book giveaway a few months ago, featured in our Feb/March issue of JOY! Magazine. This giveaway showcased Louie Giglio's wonderful devotional, and the winner, Lara-Anne, had a truly special idea: she decided to gift the book to her fiancé on the morning of their wedding!
This heartfelt gesture deeply touched us. It's truly powerful and beautiful to see a couple starting their marriage journey rooted in God's Word, with daily reminders of His love, grace, and glory. What a wonderful way to begin a new life together! Lara-Anne shared some lovely photos with us, and it was truly a joy to see.

We continue to pray that God continues to bless your marriage in the years to come, and that this book remains a treasured part of your shared walk with Christ, blessing you both!

Characters of the Bible: The false apostles of Corinth

Warnings about false prophets, false teachers, false apostles, and even false christs abound in the Bible. This month, we’ll look at a group of false apostles who infiltrated a church that the Apostle Paul planted in the Greek city of Corinth.

In the first century, it was common for itinerate teachers to move from region to region offering their professional services for a fee. This was often the case with philosophical or religious teachers. They would rock up into town offering their insights into God and pious living. After Paul’s 18-month stay in Corinth during his second missionary journey, where he established a church (Acts 18:1-11), a group of men began promulgating teaching that contradicted Paul’s Gospel message. It became such a problem that Paul had to write to the young Corinthian believers, warning them about the content and behaviour of these false teachers.

A Valued Voice: Dr. Peter Hammond at the KwaSizabantu Youth Conference

For their July 2025 Youth Conference, held from July 3 to July 9, 2025, KwaSizabantu Mission joyfully welcomed back Dr. Peter Hammond. As a highly respected missionary from Frontline Fellowship and a long-time, impactful vessel for God's truth at KwaSizabantu, Dr. Hammond, with his deep and evident heart for the Lord, was once again a truly profound voice, faithfully pouring out God's Word.

The conference experienced an astounding influx of eager attendees, a glorious testament to God's enduring grace and the mission's powerful spiritual impact. Dr. Hammond reported "a record [of] over 7,000 outsiders" who had registered for the event, not including KwaSizabantu residents and daily visitors, reflecting the widespread spiritual hunger among young people seeking the Lord. The 10,000-seat main auditorium was filled to capacity and overflowing during the Sunday service, requiring an overflow tent to accommodate the immense congregation. We praise God for His continued anointing on Dr. Hammond's life and ministry, which profoundly blessed all who attended the conference.
