The Dea Sea Scrolls

In 1947, in the barren wilderness near the Dead Sea, a young Bedouin shepherd named Muhammad edh-Dhib was searching for a lost goat. While throwing a stone into a cave, he heard the sound of breaking pottery. Climbing inside, he found clay jars containing ancient scrolls – a discovery that would shake the academic world and strengthen the faith of millions. This seemingly chance find turned out to be one of the greatest archaeological discoveries of all time: the Dead Sea Scrolls. Hidden for nearly 2000 years, these manuscripts included some of the oldest surviving copies of the Hebrew Scriptures, offering remarkable confirmation of the Bible’s preservation.

3 points to ponder on the power of the Word

Joshua, my eldest son, is writing his matric exams this year. He recently asked me how he can find peace in the midst of such a big challenge in his life. He wanted to know how he can hear God’s voice to calm and soothe him during this stressful season. I reminded him that there is something about the Word of God that cannot be compared to anything else in this world. The Bible is not just a book of good ideas, moral stories, or religious traditions. It is God Himself speaking to us. When we allow His Word into our hearts, it will transform, heal, correct, guide, strengthen, and calm us in ways nothing else can.

Our police officers are often the first to arrive at scenes of violence, theft, and tragedy. They carry the heavy responsibility of protecting our communities in a nation where crime statistics are among the highest in the world.

It is easy to complain about corruption or to feel disheartened by reports in the news, but we must not forget that there are thousands of officers who faithfully risk their lives to keep order and protect the innocent. These are husbands, wives, mothers, fathers, sons, and daughters – people just like us – who need our prayers more than ever…

The mission of the Holy Spirit

When it comes to the subject of the Holy Spirit, there’s a lot of confusion and misunderstanding within the Church – apprehension, sometimes fear, sometimes even abuse. If you’ve been around the Church world long enough, you know what I’m talking about. The subject of the Spirit is one that constantly seems to be a stumbling block for believers. Either they’re neglecting the work of the Spirit on one hand, or they’re abusing it on the other. And actually, abuse is also neglect – neglect is a form of abuse. So really, it’s just a matter of which end of the spectrum the Holy Spirit is being misunderstood on.

This ought not to be, because the Holy Spirit of God has been poured out for the sake of the Church of Jesus Christ. We ought to understand who He is and what His mission is. We’re going to look at a story from Genesis 24, which is actually a “type” – a foreshadowing – of something we discover in the New Testament…

Dr James Dobson - A life fully renewed in Heaven

On 21 August 2025, Dr James Dobson was welcomed into his true home in Heaven and is now fully renewed in the presence of God. He was 89 years old.

James Clayton Dobson Jnr was born on 21 April 1936, in Shreveport, Louisiana, to James and Myrtle (Dillingham) Dobson. The Dobson family lived in several cities while their son, Jimmy, was a child. James Dobson Snr was a travelling evangelist who shared the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and his father’s passion for the Bible’s message of salvation influenced Dr Dobson for his entire life.
