The South African Friends of Israel (SAFI) has raised urgent concerns over the ANC government’s reckless foreign policy decisions, warning that the ruling party’s alignment with authoritarian allies such as Russia, China, and particularly Iran, has left South Africans exposed to devastating economic and social consequences.

On 22 September 2025, the CRL Rights Commission issued a “Joint Media Statement” with several local ministerial fraternals, seeking to justify its renewed push for legislation to establish a Peer Review Committee system for regulating religion. While the CRL presents this as if it has both the parliamentary mandate and support to proceed, the reality is that key facts have been omitted. It is important that the public – and especially South Africa’s faith communities – understand the whole picture so as not to be misled.

Groundbreaking grant to transform spiritual care in South African healthcare
A huge step towards integrating spiritual care into the South African public healthcare system has been made possible through a significant grant awarded to HospiVision by the John Templeton Foundation. The funding will support several initiatives, such as launching the first qualification programme for hospital chaplains; funding research studies in Spirituality/Religion and Health/Healthcare to validate the role of hospital chaplaincy in patient care; hosting international conferences on Religion and Spirituality in Healthcare; and training academic scholars on how to do research in spirituality and health.
Leon du Preez is the founder and senior pastor of Encounter Church, a prophetic movement and one of South Africa’s fastest-growing churches, with campuses nationwide and a global online congregation.
Called into ministry at the age of 17 through a life-changing encounter with God, Leon has since been recognised as a prophetic voice to the nations, demonstrating the supernatural power of God while proclaiming the message of grace and unveiling the realities of the new creation in Christ.
Together with his wife, Este-Lee, they launched Encounter Church in Centurion on 18 September 2016, following years of revival ministry and a clear divine mandate. Today, Encounter Church continues to transform lives through a strong prophetic grace and the uncompromised Gospel of Jesus Christ.

I viewed the livestream of the ‘Charlie Kirk Memorial Service’ on 21 Sept. I cannot recall a major public event that included US politicians, media personalities, celebrities, and conservative activists – in which the Gospel of Jesus Christ featured so prominently.
Significantly, Charlie Kirk’s Memorial Service felt like a turning point for the USA.
The assassination of Charlie Kirk has awakened a renewed passion among US believers to boldly proclaim Biblical truth. “Turning Point USA” received over 60,000 enquiries to launch new chapters on university, college and high school campuses.

When I first heard Vanessa Goosen’s story, I was deeply moved. How does a young woman with a promising future – a Miss South Africa semi-finalist and successful business owner – end up behind bars in a foreign prison for 16 years? Her journey is heartbreaking, yet through the pain, it becomes clear that God’s hand never left her. In this interview, Vanessa shares openly about her arrest, the anguish of giving birth in prison, and the struggle of saying goodbye to her daughter. Her story is raw, but it’s also a powerful testimony of God’s mercy, grace, and the healing that comes through forgiveness.

One of the greatest threats to Christianity today is not atheism, not Islam, not secularism, not even persecution. It is something much closer to home, something deceptively safe and outwardly respectable. It is what we might call cultural Christianity.

The issue of legalised prostitution has been a “hot potato” in South Africa for a couple of decades now. Numerous attempts have been made to legalise it, all of which previously failed. For over 15 years, organisations such as Christian Action Network, along with myself, have been advocating against it as individuals and organisations.

What do I say?
In our cancel culture, have you ever been at a loss for words during a sensitive conversation? Are you looking for help on how to respond to issues like gay marriage, abortion, or racism?
During a seminar at the Billy Graham Training Center at The Cove last month, Ken Ham reminded attendees that they don’t need the answer to every question. They only need a foundation in Scripture.

Under a towering 110-foot cross, tens of thousands gathered in Wilkesboro, North Carolina, for one of the most powerful weekends of worship our nation has seen in years. FaithFest 2025 was more than a concert, more than an event — it was a movement of God.

“This is a nation that does not obey the voice of the Lord their God nor receive correction. Truth has perished and has been cut off from their mouth.” – Jeremiah 7:28
We are living in a perilous era, where even the media cannot be trusted. Influential powers, such as politicians, have been observed to have swayed the media into reporting biased news, in favour of such influential powers. This is not only true to local news stations, but is also true on a global and international scale. Many tactics have been utilised, such as fake news, clickbait headlines, and a genuine lack of fact-checking.
In this era where our culture is veering further and further away from God’s order and His truths, it is so important to be aware of what you are consuming and filling yourself with. Proverbs 4:23 warns us to “Guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life.” If you are fed up with so many biased news stations, then it is time to start empowering yourself with knowledge by doing your own research. Do not take things at face-value anymore, especially not news sites. Almost everyone has an agenda or a subjective narrative.
Here at JOY! News, we are utterly sold-out for the Gospel. Our only goal is to do whatever we can to further the Lord’s Kingdom here on earth by educating and informing Christians of a Biblical worldview. We have launched this news site that covers daily Christian news from South Africa, as well as around the globe. We have news items in both English and in Afrikaans. Please make sure to subscribe to our weekly newsletter to keep updated and informed with what is going on around the world, from a Christian perspective.

Statement of Faith
We believe the Bible to be the inspired, inerrant, and only infallible, authoritative Word of God.
We believe in one God, eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
We believe in the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles, in His vicarious and atoning death through His shed blood, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand of the Father, and in His personal bodily return in power and glory.
We believe that for the salvation of lost and sinful men, regeneration by the Holy Spirit is absolutely essential. Salvation by the grace of God alone, on the basis of Christ’s atonement on the Cross alone, received by faith alone.
We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit by Who’s indwelling the Christian is enabled to live a Godly life.
We believe in the resurrection of both the saved and the lost; of the redeemed to eternal life, and of them that are lost to eternal damnation.
We believe in the spiritual unity of believers in our Lord Jesus Christ.
